Jack Ready For A Crack At MDC

Miss Ezmae, the Dubbo 605m and Bathurst 618m record holder, proved she can sprint as well as stay with a sizzling 29.74 520m trial at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

The Jack Smith-trained bitch trialled solo in preparation for her appearance in Friday night's semi-finals of the TAB Million Dollar Chase.

Also trialling on Friday was Broken Hill Cup winner She's A Hotshot, who clocked 30.34 in a solo hit-out.

She's A Hotshot, raced by former rugby league star Terry Hill and trained in SA by Troy Murray, earned a draw in the Million Dollar Chase semis through winning the Broken Hill final.

The duel between WA-trained Perth Cup winner Vice Grip and Victorian sensation Wow She's Fast highlighted last Saturday's city qualifying races for the TAB Million Dollar Chase, but the eye-catching run in their heat was by minor placegetter Billy Creek.

After failing in three races at Dubbo and Wentworth Park in March, trainer Ian Gilders decided it was time to give Billy Creek a break from racing and freshen him up.

"I was thinking of tackling the Million Dollar Chase with him so took him to Bathurst for a 450m trial,'' Gilders said.

"Before the trial I vowed that if he did not break 26sec it would be a waste of time taking him to Wenty for the Chase heats but when he clocked 25.80 I decided to go ahead.

"Billy Creek's fastest time over 450m at Bathurst is 25.60 so I figured he was close to his best and was rapt in seeing him finish third, just two lengths behind the winner, Vice Grip."

Cool Bourbski, the LADBROKES GARDENS 715m record holder, resumed from a spell with a fast finishing second behind kennelmate Opal Model over 520m at Wentworth Park on Saturday.

But trainer Jason MACKAY is doubtful Cool Bourbski will be ready in time for the heats of the 720m Gold Cup at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

The Cup final, to be held on May 7, is worth $50,000 to the winner but MACKAY said on Saturday: "I think this series has just come up a bit too soon for her.

"But the 715, the new $500,000 to the winner long distance race to be held at LADBROKES GARDENS in June, looks a perfect fit for her.''
