Sophie Set To Find This Much Easier

By Jeff Collerson
Sophie Zarr Wren, who beat all but the placegetters in last month's group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal final at Wentworth Park, is expected to notch her first win at headquarters on Saturday night.

Sophie Zarr Wren has box two in race two, a one to three wins fifth grade, and while she is considered a wide runner she has won from boxes one and four.

Trainer Reg Gardoll said that while Sophie Zarr Wren has not raced since the Mosman Opal on October 16, she has been trialling as well as she was before that series began.

Sophie Zarr Wren was a luckless second, from box four, to final runner-up She's Salacious in her Opal heat on October 9.

"Everywhere she went in the final another dog seemed to get in her way but I did think Sophie Zarr Wren was entitled to run third,'' a candid Gardoll said.

"After the final I eased her up because in campaigning for the Opal she had made three long trips in as many weeks from Grafton to Sydney.

"I noticed this one to three wins series on the calendar so have prepared her for this race.

"Saturday's race looks a bit easier than the Opal and if Sophie Zarr Wren can find her way safely around the first corner she will be hard to beat.''

Super Charge looked desperately unlucky when third to Club Model in his heat of the GBOTA Maiden Series at Wentworth Park on October 27 and could be good value from box eight in Saturday night's final.

Fastest heat winner Magic Flame, who led throughout in 30.35, has box two, while Club Model, who clocked 30.76, has drawn five.

In his heat Super Charge easily picked up pacemaker Club Model approaching the home turn but collided heavily with that greyhound's hind quarters, almost falling himself yet appearing to push the leader forward in the process.

Trainer Jeff Alaban said: "In trials Super Charge has always been able to record very fast second and third sectional times.

"But how he will handle box eight I can't predict because when he contested his Maiden heat at Wenty it was only the second time he had been in a full field.

"He had been well schooled at Wentworth Park though as beforehand I had given him a box-to-box finish-on and a 520m trial.

"I plan to give Super Charge a few races before turning him out during the hot summer months because he doesn't turn two until February.''

Magic Flame trialled 30.50 at Wentworth Park before leading throughout in 30.35 in her heat so is an obvious improver while her litter sister and kennelmate Kiss Kiss was a solid fourth in Club Model's heat and will relish having box one in Saturday's final.

Tina Went Wrong won first-up at Wentworth Park from box seven on October 20 and trainer Robert Howard is happy seeing her with the same draw in Saturday's third race, another 520m one to three wins fifth grade.

"She runs straight from any box but I don't mind her drawn out wide,'' Howard said.

"Star Glitter, who has drawn eight, seems to be a good box dog with plenty of early speed but she should not worry Tina Went Wrong because my bitch is not a smart beginner.''

Saturday's card is dotted with interesting clashes featuring Bandit Belle and Zipping Conway in race five, Romantic Storm and Casual Glance in race seven and Zipping Kansas taking on Good Odds Cash in race eight, the 520m Free-For-All.

But perhaps the best has been saved until race 11 when Sunburnt Highway (box two) meets his old rival Good Odds Harada (seven) in the 520m Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Masters.
