Four Races Targetted With Strong Team

By Peter Davis
A Saturday night outing at Dubbo dogs has been a constant for Paul and Pam Braddon for the past 12 months.

The husband and wife team head to Dawson Park on Saturday with a six-strong squad but will contest only four races.

Pam’s Blazing Lisa, Meeka’s Charm and Carla’s Magic exit the inside three boxes in Race 8 while Paul has Swift Justice and Secret Layla in Race 9.

Pam's Benny Boy must wait until Race 11 for his essay.

Pam Braddon’s trio head early betting markets for the Feral Franky Free For All (Race 8) and the inside alley makes Blazing Lisa the one to beat.
She last stepped out on September 29 at Dubbo over 516m in a hot line-up and failed to beat a rival home in a fast 29.45. The drop back to 400m is ideal and she’s posted seven wins from just 12 starts at the distance.

Meeka’s Charm (Box 2) has been best performed over 318m at Dubbo yet has not missed a place in three tries over 400m and has genuine pace.

Carla’s Magic was away very quickly from box five and was beaten only a half-length when second to La La Louis at Dubbo on September 25 in a smart 22.97. Given another clean getaway, Carla’s Magic will make this a real contest.

Dubbo had a week layoff after the September 25 program and trialling also stalled while significant infrastructure upgrades were undertaken.

“A new electric motor for the lure was installed and a slip drain to collect and recycle water from the inside of the track was put in place,” Dubbo President Shayne Stiff said.

“The cable and roller lure system remains but the old HR Holden 186 motor was replaced by a new $60,000 electric motor.

“The 186 had been in for 15 years and I’d say, before that, we’d only ever had a HR Holden engine driving the lure but you just can’t get them now … or parts!

“We’re proud to say that the club engaged local tradesmen for the works ... the electric motor requires less maintenance and there are fewer moving parts, less to go wrong.”

On October 16, heats of the Lesley Ann Leonard Memorial (400m) are scheduled at Dubbo, with $6000 going to the winner plus the Ladbrokes Red Dog Bonus which may lift the winner’s purse to $8000.

The first of 12 races at Dubbo gets underway at 6.15pm.
