Sylvia Adds Some Zip To Tyler's Step

The Ginn clan have been an integral part of greyhound racing in the NSW western districts for over 60 years and now 26-year-old Tyler Ginn is upholding the family tradition.

Tyler, who took out a trainer's licence in 2022, is the son of successful trainer Amanda Ginn and nephew of Glen Ginn, another prolific trainer of winners who became one of the great characters of the sport.

"And Glen's father Fred was also a trainer, so the sport has been in the family for a long while,'' Tyler Ginn said.

On Friday night at Wentworth Park, Zipping Sylvia, stunned racegoers and even her connections by running down hot favourite Kade to win a 520m fifth grade in 29.65, fastest time of the night.

"I knew she was improving and had the most potential of any of the half dozen in my kennels but I didn't dream she could run time like that,'' Ginn said.

"I landed a winner with my first starter, Zipping Senorita at Dubbo in November, 2022, but I'm really only part of a training team.

"We have a syndicate comprising Marty Hallinan's sons Camo and Damian Hallinan and another mate of ours, Lachie, and any prizemoney we earn gets divided up each month.

"My kennels are at ORANGE, 10 minutes from Marty Hallinan's place, and he takes the dogs trialling and gets them checked over before they race.

"Most of the greyhounds in my kennels have been moved on by other trainers, so we hack them around, try and win some races with them, but mainly have a bit of fun.''

The aptly-named Gift For Holly gave 18-year-old Holly Taylor a winner with only her third starter when she won over 411m at Casino on Friday.

Taylor, the grand-daughter of successful trainer and breeder Ron Ulrick, received her greyhound as a thank you for assisting top Northern Rivers conditioner CHRIS Field, with his team.

Magical Mia, the dam of Gift For Holly, was sent by Sydney owner Neville Brown to Field to be used as a brood bitch.

"I had too many brood bitches at the time but didn't want Magical Mia to go to waste because she is out of My Lady Day so is bred in the purple,'' Brown said.

"Magical Mia's first litter, by Orson Allen, are winning races, and when she whelped her second litter, to Hooked On Scotch, CHRIS told me he wanted to give young Holly Taylor one of the pups as a reward for all the help she gave him on race days.

"He reckoned Holly was obsessed with greyhounds and Gift For Holly is the pup CHRIS gave her.''

CHRIS Field trained a winning double on Friday at Casino with Masani Girl and Movie Girl, members of the Orson Allen litter, while Holly Taylor, who secured her trainer's licence just a month ago, won with her bitch from the Hooked On Scotch litter at the same meeting.

Star of the Hooked On Scotch siblings is Field Day, who has had three wins and a second from four starts for CHRIS Field and is considered to have group race potential.

CHRIS Field said: "Field Day is for sale and could be sold this week because I'm 73 and have never had a real holiday, I want to buy a campervan and travel around Australia.''
