Special Win For A Great Mate

By Jeff Collerson
Reg Gardoll's biggest win as a trainer was with Watch The Web in the 2005 group 1 Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park but he got just as much pleasure through taking out Sunday's $10,000 to the winner Albert Gleeson CHRIStmas Cup at Grafton with SNOOZE MCGRAW

"I was a great friend of the late Albert Gleeson and his family so it was a really special thrill to win a race named in his honour,'' Gardoll said.

SNOOZE MCGRAW is raced by CHRIS and his wife Sandra Spratt, the daughter of renowned western districts owner-trainer-breeders Dennis and Anne Barnes.

Gardoll had a big day at Grafton with his puppy ROGUE Trigger, having only his second start, clocking fastest time of 20.07 in scoring an all the way win in a heat of the 350m Butch Monkley Memorial Maiden.

"ROGUE Trigger's first split was a very fast 4.03 and he is a handy dog, although I'm not getting carried away just yet because he still has a lot to learn,'' Gardoll said.

Wentworth Park fan favourite Poacher has been retired and is set to be adopted.

Poacher won 14 races and filled 20 placings in 50 Wentworth Park races and was responsible for a string of upset wins over big name greyhounds.

Trainer Owen Langley said: "When I brought him back to racing after a spell he was nowhere near the dog he had been so I prefer to see him retired than struggling to compete.

"He is currently with his owner Brendan Anthes but would make a fantastic pet because the dog has such a beautiful nature.

"Poacher did not get the plaudits he deserved when he was racing, he was always very under-rated.''

Poacher's best time at Wentworth Park was 29.79 and he earned over $120,000 from an overall tally of 16 wins and 27 placings from 63 races.

Also retired are Lynn and Michael Maney's speedy duo Little Bowie and Miss Urban, who are headed for the breeding barn.

Little Bowie, who registered 10 wins and 16 placings from 40 races, is likely to be mated with Flying Ricciardo.

Her litter sister Miss Urban scored five wins and nine placings from 35 appearances while their brother One Penny, who has also recently concluded his career on the track, was the star of the Fernando Bale-Miss Bowie litter, boasting a 50 per cent win record with 21 victories for 42 outings.

Noelene Holloway, who trained the 2016 National Derby winner Magic Spring, is such a big fan of Donald Trump she gave three pups from a litter she bred in March, 2020, names linked to the former US President.

Fascinate Mel, named after Trump's wife Melania, won her second race at Gosford on December 21 while Fascinate Donald, trained for Holloway by Brad Davis, scored first up in a heat of the Butch Monkley Memorial Maiden at Grafton on Sunday.

Fascinate Trump, also in Davis' kennels, is yet to make his debut.
