Dream Draw For Cumbria

By Jeff Collerson
Cumbria Dreaming's trainer Steve Fitch is "over the moon" at his dog drawing box one at Dapto on Saturday night and has pledged there will be "no excuses'' if he doesn't win.

Cumbria Dreaming will wear the red rug in the 520m @Daptogreyhounds on Facebook Stakes and goes into the race with a good record at the course of two wins and three placings from six starts.

"He has been plagued by bad boxes and in seven of his past nine starts Cumbria Dreaming has been beaten after drawing six, seven or eight,'' Fitch said.

"He doesn't have the pace to get across from wide draws but at his past two races when he has drawn near the fence, in box three, he has blown his opposition away.

"I expect him to win, but at the same time I have a healthy respect for Cliffy Bell's dog Dance With Izzy, who has box four against Cumbria Dreaming.''

Fitch has also drawn box one with his honest campaigner Silver Heels in the 520m Sportsbet Masters Stakes, but he is up against TAB Million Dollar Chase winner Good Odds Harada and Sunburnt Highway, who has won 29 races at Wentworth Park.

"Obviously I'm not confident but those good dogs won't want to do anything wrong because Silver Heels is not without a chance from his favourite box,'' Fitch said.

"And there was nothing wrong with his second placing over a less suitable 365m at Nowra last Monday when he recorded a smart 20.68 getting beaten.''

Kayla-Jane COLEMAN and her partner Shaun Evans have bright prospects of winning a double at Dapto, with Tachycardic in the 520m Commercial Painting Group Stakes and Rockstar Newbold in the Ryan's Cleaning Service Stakes over the same distance.

Tachycardic has drawn box one and is unbeaten in two starts from the prized rails alley.

"He has not raced at Dapto but he trialled there plenty of times as an unraced youngster and handles the track well,'' Evans said.

"Rockstar Newbold has box four but the small field will suit him.

"Although he has won only one race he is a lot more talented than that statistic suggests and at his most recent start, over 472m at Bulli, he clocked 26.34 when he finished third.

"And he has recorded a fast 29.80 over the Dapto 520m trip.''

Tarawi Ted missed a place for the first time in seven races when fifth at Dapto on August 26 but should only need to jump cleanly to make amends in Saturday's Sportsbet Same Race Multi Stakes, 520m.

After winning at Wentworth Park and Bulli, Tarawi Ted won first-up at Dapto in a sizzling 29.83 on August 21 but last week from box seven missed the start hopelessly.

His fate was sealed when he was skittled while making ground going through the catching pen but while he would be better suited drawn close to the rails, he looks a class above his rivals from his box seven draw on Saturday.

Saturday's best value bet looks to be Tailspin Cargo, who has box six in the 297m Sportsbet Bet With Mates Stakes.

Tailspin Cargo won on debut at Dapto in a nippy 16.93 on June 3 and ran the race of her life when third to Aston Barak and Nitroglycerine over 400m at Bulli last Saturday.

Tailspin Cargo made the pace in that much tougher event with trainer Allen Williams commenting: "Her third placing behind those talented dogs had a lot of merit.

"When Tailspin Cargo won first up at Dapto in June she had not been out of the boxes there but went into the race after having just a short hand-slip.

"She can miss the jump a touch but if she gets away well on Saturday I expect her to go close.''

Williams also has Zest To Excel opposed to Good Odds Harada and Sunburnt Highway in Saturday's Master race and like Silver Heels' trainer Steve Fitch, has not given up hope of causing an upset.

"Zest To Excel took ground off Good Odds Harada when she finished second, beaten just under a length, over 472m at Bulli last Saturday,'' Williams pointed out.

"She is partial to Dapto and over 520m I think she only needs room to move early and she will take holding off.''
