Spring Arrives to Warm Winter for Brunton

By Jeff Collerson
Spring Chilli gave Mandy Brunton and her partner Ken Burnett a welcome return to the training ranks with an all-the-way win over 365m at Nowra on Monday night.

A daughter of Brunton and Burnett's brood bitch Chilli Sierra, Spring Chilli began brilliantly at Nowra, showing she has fully recovered from a rip in her back muscle.

"We cut down the size of our kennel because I am working full-time and Mandy has been in ill health so it was not fair to ask her to train a large team,'' Burnett said.

"We sold an entire litter of youngsters by Ritza Lenny from Nymeria and also sold Spring Chilli's brother Last Phoenix to Neville Brown.

"Neville has had a bit of fun with Last Phoenix, who has won six from 13 starts, but before she hurt her back muscle Spring Chilli was only trialling a tenth of a second slower than her brother.

Andy's Trinity established himself as one of the most consistent greyhounds racing at Bathurst when he scored his third win from his past four starts at the Kennerson Park track on Monday.

Despite being a good railer and coming off box eight, Andy's Trinity took his record to five wins from 11 starts for owner-trainer, 73-year-old Laurie Duncan

Based at Euchareena, between ORANGE and WELLINGTON, Duncan has four greyhounds in work and believes Andy's Trinity would be suited at Wentworth Park.

"These days I'm restricted in how much I can get around so my son Matt would have to take Andy's Trinity to Sydney,'' he said.

"I have raced several greyhounds with the Trinity suffix over the years because I was a big fan of the series of cowboy movies like They Call Me Trinity which came out around 50 years ago.

"Best greyhound I have bred and raced was Clair Maude, who won a dozen races for me before I sent her to Victorian trainer Jason Thompson, for whom she won five more at Sandown, The Meadows, Geelong and Ballarat.''
