Cash Ready To Fly To The Phoenix

By Jeff Collerson
Good Odds Cash has not raced for a fortnight but has proved her fitness with a sizzling 29.70 Wentworth Park trial in preparation for Saturday night's second Flight To The Phoenix semi-final at headquarters.

Frank Hurst, whose wife Tracey trains the brilliant sprinter, said: "When there were no races available for her last week we trialled Good Odds Cash after the last at Wenty and that's what she ran, equalling her best race time which she clocked in June.

"But while Good Odds Cash is unbeaten in three races from box eight, I'm not rapt in that draw for Saturday night's race.

"It's one thing to win from box eight against moderate company, but it is a heck of a lot harder in top grade lineups.

"Our other dog Sound Of Silence has also come up with box eight in the fourth semi of the Phoenix, and I would definitely prefer box one for him, and for Good Odds Cash for that matter.''

Each of Ritza Donna's two Wentworth Park wins has been from box six but trainer Mark Gatt is pleased to see her in box one in Saturday night's Shano's Last Stand Stakes, a 520m third and fourth grade.

Ritza Donna had box six when she won in 30.32 on October 23 and wore the green vest again when she posted her personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.85 last Saturday night.

"She goes a lot better from an inside box,'' Gatt said.

"Ritza Donna is among the favourites in my kennels because she is such a good little chaser who puts in 100 per cent every time she races.

"But even though she has box one, her opposition on Saturday night is very strong, there is a lot of depth in her race.''

Lock Master is likely to be all the rage in Saturday night's The Bocking Bock's Cup, a 520m fifth grade, following his all-the-way win in a fast 29.70 at Wentworth Park last week.

But Danielle Swain, trainer of Tick Warrior, believes her greyhound can topple the favourite.

"I reckon they will have to break 30sec to beat Tick Warrior on Saturday,'' Swain said.

"She has won four races from box one and is in terrific form again.

"Tick Warrior won three races in a row at Wenty in October and in two of those wins she had box one,

"She was down in confidence and was unplaced at her next couple of races in town but is back to her best again.

"I gave her a 400m race with a finish on lure at Richmond last Sunday and she won that convincingly.

"That has sharpened Tick Warrior right up again and from box one she will go straight to the first turn.''

Another trainer happy with his greyhound's inside draw is Scott Morgan, whose bitch Paradiso Jewel has drawn two in the Ladbrokes Switch Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Paradiso Jewel clocked 30.07 in finishing second, from box three, at Wentworth Park on October 9 and won in 30.17 from box two four nights later.

"She had no luck when she finished sixth from box eight at Wentworth Park at her last start on November 6,'' Morgan said.

"Paradiso Jewel was up there for most of the race but was always trapped three wide and could not get a crack at them.

"I have kept her nice and fresh for this week because she races well that way.

"Paradiso Jewel has not had a serious trial since her last race but went well when I gave her a hit-out up the straight with her kennelmate Cosmic Luna, who has had four wins and a second from her past five starts, and she went super.''
