Paradiso Jewel Not To Be Caught This Time

By Jeff Collerson
Paradiso Jewel was tackling 520m for the first time in six months when caught in the last couple of bounds at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and is expected to go one better in Wednesday night's Get To Wenty This Saturday Stakes, a 520m fifth grade at Headquarters.

Last Saturday Paradiso Jewel made all the running but was run down on the line by Lennie Fox in a slick 30.02sec.

Paradiso Jewel's trainer Scott Morgan said: "I was very happy with that run because the only time she had previously seen Wentworth Park was in a box-to-box trial four nights earlier.

"She has box two on Wednesday and she likes an inside draw.

"Paradiso Jewel is a recent addition to my kennels because her owner felt she would be suited in a small kennel and I have only four greyhounds in work.

"After suffering an injury and being sidelined for three months, Paradiso Jewel won a 330m race at Richmond on August 27 in the best time of the meeting and five nights later clocked 22.40, again fastest time of the meeting, over 400m there.

"I also have Appetizing in Wednesday's race and she will improve on her unplaced run at Wentworth Park last Saturday.

"She is going well but has box four and just like Paradiso Jewel, Appetizing wants an inside box.''

Few greyhounds are more deserved of a first win than Pazienza, who has been placed at his past six starts and chases that elusive victory in Wednesday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden over 520m.

Pazienza set up a big early lead over 535m at Richmond last Sunday but faded near the finish and wound up third, a length from the winner Albury Fella.

"Wentworth Park 520m is an easier run than the Richmond 535m and I'm hoping Pazienza can get to the front and hang on this time,'' trainer Owen Langley said.

"When he was unplaced at his first race start at his only Wentworth Park outing Pazienza didn't know what he was doing, he is a lot better dog now.

"My only concern is Pazienza facing a quick back-up from Sunday to Wednesday but this race was too tempting to by-pass.''

Little Prayer has not raced since her impressive 30.24 Wentworth Park win on October 2 but trainer Phillip Cini said his bitch is at her peak for Wednesday night's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"She was eligible for last Saturday's Peter Mosman Opal heats but Little Prayer is not up to that class,'' Cini said.

"But I have kept her fit with a couple of trials up the straight at Appin.

"She didn't run quick times in those trials but she never does, she is too small to be a good straight tracker and they were simply conditioning runs for her.

"Little Prayer is ideally drawn in box one but I don't know if she can beat Jodie Lord's greyhound Bandit Belle, who is boxed alongside her in two.''

Wednesday night's best bet should be Zulu Warlord, who is far from perfectly positioned in box two but looks to have too much early dash for his six rivals.

Zulu Warlord (pictured) was awkwardly placed in box four but still led early when third to Zipping Kyrgios in the group 2 Sires On Ice Black Top at LADBROKES GARDENS on October 8.

He boasts a remarkably consistent record of 16 wins and 11 placings from 34 starts and should notch his eighth Wentworth Park success on Wednesday.
