Borg Delighted Even Before His Pair Race

By Jeff Collerson
It's not often a trainer nominates two greyhounds for a meeting and believes each has come up with a perfect box but that's how George Borg feels about his pair Jackpot Josie and Romantic Storm at Wentworth Park tonight.

Jackpot Josie has box eight in the 520m Ladbroke It Stakes fourth grade while Romantic Storm will wear the red rug in the 520m Ladbrokes Easy Form Free-For-All.

"I could not be happier with their draws,'' Borg said.

"Jackpot Josie just loves box eight and she has won seven of her nine starts from that alley.

"She is going extra well too, in fact I rate her most recent success, over 400m at Richmond on October 10 from box four, as among the best of her 18 wins.

"In that race Jackpot Josie pushed through the field and showed a lot of determination so she is really switched on at the moment.

"Romantic Storm was a bit jaded after finishing fourth in the Free-For-All at Wentworth Park on Saturday night, when he had box six.

"But he had a nice hot bath on Monday and slept well that night so by the time tonight's race comes up he will be fine again.

"Romantic Storm has only been beaten once in four starts from box one so both he and Jackpot Josie should only need to begin cleanly to be very hard to beat.''

Best On Ground, who is owned by nine leading thoroughbred racing identities including crack jockeys Brenton Avdulla, Kerrin McEvoy, Tommy Berry and Nash Rawiller, will be an interesting runner in tonight's 520m We're Back At The Track fifth grade.

Best On Ground (pictured) won her first two races, over 535m at Richmond in September, in dashing style, before bungling the start when a strong finishing fourth in a heat of the group 1 Ladbrokes Peter Mosman Opal at her Wentworth Park debut on October 9.

Trainer Darryl Thomas said: "Best On Ground has not jumped at her past two starts but she is capable of beginning well.

"When she finished fourth in the Opal heat she wanted to go to the rails after missing the kick but if she jumps cleanly tonight she will run in a straight line to the first turn.

"I would have preferred her boxed nearer the inside but if she steps away I don't think it will matter because Best On Ground is a pretty special animal.''

As a winner of nine races at Wentworth Park, Diamantina Rose looks well placed in tonight’s 520m Live And Free At The Dogs Stakes, a fifth grade.

The Christine Proctor trained Diamantina Rose's 67 Wentworth Park outings have resulted in nine wins and 29 placings and she has earned over $90,000.

Two runs back Diamantina Rose was contesting top grade at Wenty and Proctor's husband Alan said: "She is well placed on Wednesday.

"A was a bit disappointed with her fourth from box one in a third and fourth grade at Wentworth Park on October 13 but she could be improved by that run.

"Diamantina Rose is not long back racing after an injury and her condition is improving.

"Although I prefer her drawn inside and she has box six on Wednesday, she can sometimes ping the lids and handle a wide draw.

"I would dearly love to see her hit the $100,000 prizemoney mark.''
