Carruthers' Impressive Strikerate Set To Continue

By Peter Davis
After a break from the rigors of training greyhounds of just under four years, Jane Carruthers returned to the training ranks in July and the results have been spectacular.

In late 2009, Carruthers prepared Magic Sprite to win 10 of 11 career starts while a decade earlier Rapid Journey proved his champion qualities, winning a National Sprint Championship, Topgun at Sandown, an Adelaide Cup, Golden Easter Egg and Melbourne Cup.

Since Angel Glow stepped out at Dapto on July 24 in Free For All company, Carruthers had rugged nine runners for four wins and Angel Glow can lift her strike rate to 50 percent in Race Five at Dapto – a GRNSW Middle Distance Grade Five.

Close friend, Victorian Paul Bartolo, breeder of Magic Sprite, prepared Angel Glow for Carruthers early on and her talent was laid bare when a fast 29.47s winner at Sandown at start two.

Though beaten in top grade at her NSW debut at Dapto over 520m, Angel Glow quickly atoned with a slick 34.44s effort over 600m at the Showground track.

Next time, at Richmond over 618m, the daughter of Fernando Bale led from box three and held Disco Diva at bay to salute in a solid 35.60s.

Still in grade five company, Angel Glow has the pace to lead from box six and win 10 (at start 19) beckons.

From box one, Mick Hardman’s Chase Me Honey will look to press Angel Glow early yet she will need to produce a career best effort to prevail.

The first of 12 races at Dapto kicks off at 6.49pm.
