Step Down In Grade Perfect For Chrissie

By Jeff Collerson
Chrissie Banner chased home Ebby Infrared, Fire Legend and On The Rocks at Bulli last Saturday and seems sure to relish going from top grade to fifth class at Richmond on Saturday night.

Chrissie Banner has box three in the 535m Castlewood Kitchens Stakes and while she has had two placings from just three races over this Richmond trip trainer Barry Gibbons believes she is suited by the track.

"She has been mixing it with the big guns lately and is back in grade on Saturday night,'' Gibbons said.

"I was happy with her fourth last Saturday because she is better suited on a two turn track like Richmond than a one turn circuit like Bulli.

"She seems nicely drawn on Saturday too.''

While Chrissie Banner has done little racing at Richmond, she has a great record at another two turns track, Wentworth Park, where she has contested 20 races over 520m for six wins and six placings.

She won there in a slick 29.81 from box four on April 17 and at her most recent appearance was beaten a head by Diamantina Rose in 29.96 on May 8.

The Mark Gatt-trained Zipping Shayne and Hudson Road are having their first Richmond starts on Saturday night but each trialled there last week.

"I gave them both a box-to-box hit-out and while they didn't break any records they went well enough,'' Gatt said.

Zipping Shayne has box five in the 535m Ladbrokes Stakes, a fifth grade, while Hudson Road has drawn seven in the fifth grade Bess Electrical Stakes over the same journey.

"Zipping Shayne looks my best chance because he seems to be in a fairly quiet race,'' Gatt said.

"Hudson Road has won five of 13 starts but from box seven he might find it hard to beat Michelle Sultana's dog Minter Blaze, who is flying at the moment.''

Minter Blaze recorded a blistering 30.46 to win at his only Richmond outing on July 23 before overcoming a slow start and sweeping around the field to clock a fast 26.29 winning over 472m at Bulli last Saturday.

Minter Blaze has box six but runs his best races from wide draws.

Good Odds Cash's chances in Saturday's 535m fourth grade Ladbroke It Stakes hinge on how she leaves the starting boxes.

That's the opinion of Frank Hurst, whose wife Tracey trains the exciting speedster.

"Good Odds Cash is fast but her problem is she doesn't get down in the starting boxes, she tends to stand up as the lure approaches,'' Hurst said.

"If she comes out smartly she usually wins but she can't afford to give good dogs too much start out of the boxes.''

Although the Hursts live a mere hand-slip away from the Richmond track, Good Odds Cash has not raced there.

"She has not had a lot of trials at Richmond but she does know her way around the track,'' Frank Hurst said.

Sound Of Silence, a son of the Hurst family's former brilliant front runner Good Odds Angel, has box seven in Saturday night's long-distance race, the 717m Ladbrokes Bet Ticker Stakes.

"I would have preferred to see Sound Of Silence drawn inside because he wants to get to the fence,'' Frank Hurst said.

"But he will go straight so won't cause himself any bother and I think he has previously beaten most of the dogs he is up against on Saturday.''
