Sergio Has Another Rising Star

By Jeff Collerson
Forner Rising was runner-up at her Wentworth Park debut last Saturday night but trainer Sergio Forner rates her superior to her sister Forners Flame, a dual Wenty winner with a dazzling 29.68 personal best to her credit.

Forner Rising has box four in Saturday night's racenet.com.au Stakes, a 520m fifth grade at headquarters, and should only need a clear run to win.

"Her problem is she hit or miss at the start,'' Forner said.

"But she has a lot of ability and has run 29.60 over 520m at Nowra, something her sister Forners Flame has not been able to do.

"Forner Rising had box seven last week and she does seem to miss the kick more often from wide boxes.

"I don't know whether she can't the lure as well when she is drawn outside but I was very happy with her run to get second.

"After the race somebody wanted to buy her but she is not for sale at any price.

"Forner Rising and Forners Flame will hopefully begin a good breeding line for me, they will be my foundation bitches.''

While Forner Rising appeals as Saturday's best value bet, the night's safest wager should be Fantastic Victor, who has once again come up with a suitable wide draw in the Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Fantastic Victor has a great record from outside boxes and is unbeaten in five starts from box eight, while he had box seven, his draw on Saturday, when third to Whitfield in a Wentworth Park Free-For-All on December 30.

At his only subsequent Wentworth Park start Fantastic Victor was out of his depth when sixth to final winner Zipping Moose in a heat of the group 1 Ladbrokes National Derby on January 15.

The dog drops back sharply in class to fifth grade on Saturday and proved his fitness with a blistering near record 20.36 performance to win over 365m at Nowra on January 24.

Trainer Jodie Lord is quietly confident of landing the quinella in Saturday night's 720m Men Of League Foundation Stakes but finds it hard to split her starters Cawborne Footrot (box one) and Just Terms (box seven).

"Cawborne Footrot had no luck when second to Ava Wine in last Sunday's Anniversary Cup over 630m at Nowra, he kept running into the back of other dogs,'' Lord said.

"He is racing increasingly like a real 720m dog so the distance on Saturday and the rails box will suit him.

"But Just Terms has won seven races over the Wentworth Park 720m trip and while she has been lightly raced recently, that was due to her having a seasonal spell.

"She is going well again though.''

Murdoch Keeping is no world-beater according to trainer Owen Langley but he said: "He not bad for a dog most people told me could not run 520m.''

Murdoch Keeping has box eight in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and is tackling easier company than he met when fourth at his past two Wentworth Park outings late last month.

"I like him from box eight because he has good early pace and is fit and well,'' Langley said.

"When I got him people told me he could not run 520m but he won there on January 13 and ran hisĀ  fastest Wentworth Park time of 30.16 when he finished second there a week later.''
