Hunter Valley The New Home Of Motor City

By Jeff Collerson
Motor City Mossy, who broke a long-standing track record at Lithgow on Saturday, has joined the Hunter Valley kennels of leading trainer Jason Mackay.

Owner Trent Anderson prepared Motor City Mossy for her debut win over 414m at Lithgow when she became the first greyhound to break 24sec there by leading throughout in 23.91.

The previous record of 24.05 had been set in April, 2008, by Terry Northey's marvellous sprinter Shacoby Rocket, who finished up winning 10 of 30 races.

"Jason Mackay was training Motor City Mossy for me earlier in the year but then she came in season and returned to my property at Yetholme, which is half-way between Lithgow and Bathurst,'' Anderson said.

"She was going well before she came in season but I reckon she has improved since returning.

"I own Motor City Mossy's grand-dam Jessie Rumble but was not permitted to breed from her last time she came in season.

"Friends who rear pups on my behalf were selling a litter sired by Aston Dee Bee and whelped by Jessie Rumble's daughter Antique Blonde so I bought one and that's how I became the owner of Motor City Mossy.''

Utah Misty completed a successful return to racing when she scored her second win in as many comeback starts at Bulli on Tuesday night.

The Joe Satti-trained bitch began midfield but took the lead at the first turn to cover the 472m in a slick 26.37.

On November 3 she had won in a quick 22.40 over 400m at Bulli when resuming after an enforced break of nearly four months.

"She was sidelined with torn tendons and then she got spiked on a hind leg muscle,'' Satti said.

"Utah Misty is going better than ever now and I plan to get her back to Wentworth Park within the next fortnight.''

Satti bred Utah Misty from her former smart racer Utah Lass, who whelped four puppies to Barcia Bale just over three months ago.

"Because she had a small litter of two boys and two girls I won't be selling any,'' Satti said.

Fire On Ice, sidelined since an ill-fated tilt at the Black Top at LADBROKES GARDENS on August 28, is on target to tackle next month's heats of the Gosford Cup.

Fire On Ice is being set for the December 27 heats and has the form on the board at the central coast track, where she won in 29.27 in June and 29.28 in February.

With a Wentworth Park 520m time of 29.64 to her credit, the Mark Moroney-trained bitch is not only a Gosford specialist but has the talent to take out a group race.

"The Black Top was a disaster for Fire On Ice because she not only tore a groin muscle during the race, but after the finish line she slid into the catching pen gate and was knocked out,'' Moroney said.

"She is going great again and trialled 25.07 over 450m at Maitland, which is .09sec quicker than her previous best time there.''

Fire On Ice's litter brother and kennelmate Fire Legend, who won the recent group 2 Lismore Workers Club Cup for Moroney, will also contest the Gosford Cup after he competes in the Hobart Thousand series in early December.

"Fire Legend has not been around Gosford but I will give him a box-to-box trial there before the Cup heats,'' Moroney said.

Fire Legend has box one in Saturday night's Wentworth Park Free-For-All and with wide runner Rachel's Revenge in box two, looks set to lead all the way.

In January Kid Candle won the 2020 Gosford Cup final while the race record stands at 29.15, posted by the Peter and Jodie Lagogiane trained Beast Unleashed in 2019.

Following the December 27 heats the $40,000 to the winner group 2 final will be staged on Sunday, January 3.
