Corrupted Better Suited This Time

By Peter Davis
Greyhound racing at Wagga has been a Friday night constant for an extended period yet for the second successive week, it’s an early start for all on October 21.

The club’s opening race kicked off at 11.17am on October 15, and on Friday, it’s just a little later – 11.40am.

“It’s a really early start for our track curator Adrian Podmore...  he’ll be up before dawn and at the track around 5am,” Wagga Secretary Manager John Patton said.

“We’ve effectively swapped time slots with Goulburn and Grafton in order to have the Cup carnival run as an afternoon [Sunday] card.

Goulburn has taken Grafton’s usual Sunday meeting and Grafton then moved out of our night program for just two weeks.”

Heats of the $5000 to-the-winner GRNSW Grade Five series highlight Wagga’s 11-race card and a dog to watch is John Jones’ Corrupted.

Interestingly, Jones’ son David bred and owns Group 2 Bendigo Cup winner Paua Of BUDDY and Corrupted, while yet to make his way out of retracted company, is a showing promise.

At Wagga on October 1, Corrupted finished a distant seventh over 400m but was poorly positioned in box seven and the move closer to the inside is really key for Friday’s assignment.

Not only is the son of My Redeemer better drawn this time, the step up to 525m appeals. Corrupted boasts three wins from just five career starts and, should he perform to expectation on Friday at the extended trip, he’ll race through the grades in quick fashion.

Toughest for Corrupted to beat is Miss Key (Box two). She has saluted in three of four starts at Wagga over 525m and has also scored at Nowra (over 520m) in a solid 29.87.

The first of 11 races at Wagga jumps at 11.40am.
