Zipping Conway Hits Wentworth Park Tonight

By Jeff Collerson
Boom youngster Zipping Conway makes his eagerly anticipated Wentworth Park debut tonight but trainer Ray Magri considers his greyhound "no good thing'' to maintain his unbeaten record.

Zipping Conway has box three in race two, a 520m fifth grade, and is up against a trio of city winners in Hudson Road (box four), One Smart One (two) and Remas Fernando (seven).

Hudson Road and One Smart One have won three and two races respectively at Wentworth Park while Remas Fernando has had a win, two seconds and a luckless fifth from four appearances at headquarters.

Zipping Conway has won each of four races at Bulli, one over 400m and three straight over 472m, when he got under the 26sec mark each time.

"This Wenty race is certainly not an easy one for Zipping Conway's first crack in town and Hudson Road, who broke 30sec winning at Wenty last Saturday, looks awfully hard to beat,'' Magri said.

"I gave Zipping Conway a post-to-post hand-slip after the last race at Wentworth Park on Saturday night and he clocked 24.09.

"That is pretty smart but to be honest, I expected him to go a bit quicker.''

Magri is more confident about the chances of Where's Rocky, who has box one in race three, another 520m fifth grade.

"Where's Rocky dwelt at the start from box one at his only Wentworth Park race on June 12 but took the lead at the first turn and won comfortably in 29.87,'' Magri said.

"That time was a big improvement on when I had trialled him at Wenty and he clocked only 30.20.

"When he ran the 30.20 he came out okay but seemed to trip as he left the boxes and recorded a steady first split of 5.65.

"He still broke 14sec for the second split before getting a bit tired, but he got under 14sec again when he won on June 12.

"Where's Rocky looks ideally drawn this week.''

Cowgirl Ethics, runner-up to Bandit Ned in the group 3 Ladbrokes Magic Maiden final at Wentworth Park on March 31, returns to WP in tonight's fifth race, a 520m fifth grade.

When she made the pace in the Magic Maiden, Cowgirl Ethics recorded a scorching opening split of 5.34, after posting an almost as blistering 5.39 when she led throughout in her semi-final a week earlier.

Cowgirl Ethics resumed from a spell at Bulli on May 25, and after winning in smart time over 340m, scored again over the same course in quick figures on June 1.

"She stepped up to 400m on June 8 and won in 22.36 but I have not had the chance to get her back to Wenty for a trial,'' trainer David Smith said.

"Instead Cowgirl Ethics had a hit-out over 400m at Bulli last Friday and she clocked 22.76 on a slow track in awful, windy conditions.

"I was happy with that run and although she has box four this week, she should only need to come close to her previous Wentworth Park splits to be the pacemaker.

"As always at Wenty for Cowgirl Ethics, the last little bit will probably be her main concern.''

Wow had his colours lowered from box two at Wentworth Park on June 5 and finished fourth, from box four, in the TAB Origin Challenge at Albion Park last Thursday, but should bounce back to the winning list tonight.

Wow has drawn perfectly in box eight in the 520m Free-For-All, with short course specialist Hudson Bolt in six and middle distance performer Sound Of Silence in seven.

The Danielle Matic-trained Wow has a great record from outside draws, having won six of his nine appearances from boxes seven and eight.
