Bill To Bring South Coast Form To Town

By Jeff Collerson
Trunkey Bill, who has won four of his past six starts at Bulli, should only need to bring that south coast form to town to take out tonight's 520m Where Else But Wenty Stakes at Wentworth Park.

The youngster has drawn box seven and his breeder-trainer Tony Godden is happy with his charge's wide alley.

"He likes it out there and he has won two from two out of box eight and one of two from box seven, although those runs were at Bulli,'' Godden said.

"Trunkey Bill finished fourth at his only Wentworth Park start on February 27 but when he contested that race he had not seen the track since having a couple of trials there early in his career.

"I have brought him up from my kennels at Bargo a couple of times over the past couple of weeks to give Trunkey Bill more experience at Wenty and he has trialled well.''

Trunkey Bill has clocked a blistering 22.21 winning over the Bulli 400m trip and has record an extra smart 26.21 over the 472m journey there.

Carter's Ransom was slowly away when a fast finishing second at Wentworth Park last Wednesday and trainer Keith Pedrana believes his dog's inside draw in tonight's Ladbrokes Back Yourself Stakes can help him score his first city win.

"In his past six starts Carter's Ransom has not drawn closer to the fence than box six and he wants an inside draw,'' Pedrana said.

"Last week he missed the jump and came from a long way back to finish second, beaten four lengths in 30.00.

"But he has recorded 30.10 and 30 seconds flat in trials at Wenty and is very strong because he has run home in 11.70 in a 520m trial.

"Hopefully from box two he can get away a bit better and with a clear run he should take holding off.''

Minter Blaze was desperately unlucky when second at his first Wentworth Park appearance last Wednesday and the former Victorian gets his chance to make amends in tonight's Congratulations Lakeview Walter Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Last week the Andy Lord-trained Minter Blaze was sent out a $1.95 favourite from box three and after being a close fourth on the back straight, unwound what looked set to be a winning burst along the rails.

The gap on the fence closed as Minter Blaze was railing through and he was badly checked, losing all winning chance.

But he regained his balance and flashed home to finish second, beaten two-and-a-half lengths by Old Mate Koby in 29.96.

Minter Blaze is ideally positioned in box one tonight and with moderate beginners drawn on his right, he should be up near the lead at the crucial first turn.

Lord's wife is tipped to take out tonight's top grade 520m event, the Congratulations Jungle Deuce Free-For-All, with her durable bitch Second Exit.

Boasting a marvelous record of 20 wins and 28 placings from 64 starts, Second Exit has drawn box six and looks well positioned out wide.

She resumed from a three months lay-off last Wednesday and ran a great race, powering home to beat all but Ebby Jet Power in a 520m Wentworth Park Free-For-All.

The winner carved out the distance in a sensational 29.40, so Second Exit, who was beaten six lengths after being third to the home turn, recorded a smart 29.80 in defeat.

Second Exit has clocked 29.66 at Wentworth Park and the move from box three last Wednesday should be in her favour as she has mostly produced her best form when drawn near the outside of the field.
