Ava Likes Pete's Lucky Box 7 Too

By Jeff Collerson
Ava Wine will be striving to maintain his flawless record from box seven when he wears the black rug in Saturday night's Ladbrokes Cash In Golden Easter Egg Prelude at Wentworth Park.

"He clocked his fastest Wentworth Park time of 29.85 from box one but is undefeated in three starts from the seven, the draw he has on Saturday night,'' trainer Peter Lagogiane said.

"I don't know how or why he has been able to remain unbeaten from box seven because Ava Wine is a good railer and is really better suited from an inside alley.

"But the draw on Saturday night does look good because box six is vacant and Ava Wine has just five rivals, which is definitely in his favour.

"He just needs to get a crack at his opponents in the early stages and get a clear run to be hard to beat.''

In Your Time's 77-year-old trainer Barry Evans will be making his 16th trip to Sydney from his home at Moonbi, near Tamworth, when his greyhound contests Saturday night's Going To The Dogs Stakes, a 720m fifth grade.

In Your Time and Evans have made the 10 hours round trip on 15 occasions with the greyhound notching two wins and six placings over the 720m journey.

Evans' wife Roz, part-owner of In Your Time, said: "Barry dodged a bullet this week because he had intended to nominate In Your Time for Wednesday's abandoned WP meeting.

"When In Your Time jumped in front and led all the way to win at Wenty on February 17 I was so shocked I nearly fell of my chair at home,'' Roz Evans said.

"We are happy seeing In Your Time in box eight on Saturday because that is a lot better than being drawn in the middle and she is a bit of a wide runner.

"I just hope she can get up near the lead without getting pushed about.

"If In Your Time repeats her last start performance she should go well because it looks a suitable race for her.''

Redshift Seven had no luck when fourth to Aston Zodiac at WP last Saturday night and can make amends when he tackles a slightly easier race in Saturday's Ladbrokes Back Yourself Easter Egg Prelude.

Last week Redshift Seven went fast along the rails to be a close third behind pacemakers Aston Zodiac and Me Me Mia on the back straight, but collided with the second dog and lost all chance.

"He was certainly unlucky getting checked because I think he was going to be in the finish,'' trainer John Little said.

Redshift Seven had box one last Saturday but while he moves to box seven this week he has won three races from wide draws.

Saturday's best bet should be Kid Psycho, who, like Aston Zodiac, is from the Geoff Grimwood kennels in the Hunter Valley.

Kid Psycho, a 23 months old member of an outstanding litter, has box two in the Ladbrokes Odds Boost Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

He made an impressive Wentworth Park debut in leading throughout in a handy 30.25 from box three on February 17.

Kid Psycho would almost certainly have clocked faster time had he not got wide on the first turn, so should benefit from his first race on the track.
