Black's A Marble Ready To Roll At Nowra

By Stuart Turner

Hot pup Black’s A Marble and recent Dapto Megastar Prelude winner Aphorism look the picks in today’s Group 3 Classicbet Nowra Spring Puppy Classic heats (520m).

Black’s A Marble jumps from box one in the first of three heats at the Shoalhaven Club aiming for a sixth win in his first seven starts.

The son of Spring Gun and Cathy’s Marble already has a Wentworth Park win and four successes at Richmond under his belt, as well as a super 29.84 triumph here two weeks ago.

Jason Buckley, son of Black’s A Marble owner-trainer Mervyn Buckley, is confident of another strong show here.

“His mother was a stayer (but) not a good racer,” he said. “We are hoping he can be a more complete package.

“He’s probably more like Spring Gun in that he explodes from the boxes, Draws don’t seem to worry him (either).

“We broke him in at Dapto. If your greyhound goes well at Dapto, there’s a good chance they’ll go well as most places.

“The greyhound in box three (Spritely Dancer) is a danger as she has good pace, but if ours can get out cleanly, he should be away.”

Aphorism looks the standout greyhound in the series, having already scored 10 wins and nine minor placings in 27 starts.

The son of Collision and Fantasy Royale, who has already earned more than $40,000 in prize money, has yet to race at Nowra but trialled strongly there earlier this month in 29.72.

He is also in good form, having won the Dapto Megastar Prelude with a super 29.56 effort before finishing fourth in the Group 1 final.

He jumps from box four, from which he has had one unsuccessful previous start, in heat three.

Ray Webster’s Hugo Boss (box one), who has scored two wins at Bulli and Goulburn so far, looks the pick in heat two.

The son of Dyna Lachlan and Lagoon Lowanna ran 30.22 while finishing runner-up behind Prince Omar over the 520m at Nowra earlier this month.

In other action at Nowra, Good Judge and Silent Crash look the picks in race six and eight respectively.

Good Judge (box two) has won three of his four visits here for trainer Judith Fisher, who is enjoying a strong run of form.

Silent Crash (box two) scored a terrific 20.59 win here last week and has won eight of his nine visits to Nowra.
