Bull Eagle Looking To Soar Again

By Stuart Turner

Potential future city star Bull Eagle aims for another win while boom pups Zipping Harry and Chevy Prince should also salute at today's Maitland meeting.

Bull Eagle jumps from box one in the days’ feature race, the Classicbet Winter Cup Final 1-3 Wins (400m, race eight) aiming for a third win in his first four starts.

The son of Spring Gun and Teenage Dream clocked 22.57 on debut here in June and ran a strong 22.79 here last week.

Bracket Creep (box four) is another handy pup featuring here but Bull Eagle’s trainer Donald Kirk thinks his contender can win.

“He’s been a bit lucky so far in that he’s not been crowded,” he said. “I would have preferred box eight where he could keep out of trouble.

“But box one won’t hurt him – he’s a good little beginner and should stay out of bother.

“He’s very strong at the end of his races and a good little chaser.

“I’m quietly confident here.”

Bull Eagle started averagely last week but produced a super finish to hold off Micrajewel, who jumps here from box three, by two lengths.

NSW Hunter Valley trainer Kirk said he would bring Bull Eagle down to Wentworth Park after this race for trials over the 500m.

“I do think he can be city class,” Kirk said. “He has very promising ability and seems to be improving.

“I’m confident he will be strong enough to step up to the 500 metres.”

The Jason Mackay-trained Zipping Harry (box seven) looks a strong chance to earn a debut win in race two.

A son of Magic Sprite and Pink Bandanna, he has already trialled impressively over the 400m at Unibet Gardens.

Meanwhile, kennelmate Chevy Prince aims to bounce back after missing out on the $25,000 top prize in the Group 3 Laurie Healion Memorial Maiden.

The son of Fabregas and Chevy Princess was a $2 favourite for last Friday’s decider after impressing earlier in the series, but started slowly and finished fourth.

Chevy Prince was bought for $70,000 by renowned tracing syndication group Australian Bloodstock, part owners of the 2014 Melbourne Cup-winning thoroughbred Protectionist.

This is a first start over 450m but he should win here from box three.

Look for One Hill and Kevin In Bangkok, who did well on a recent trip to Victoria, to score wins in races three and five respectively.
