Star Of Ibrox Can Shine Again At Gosford

By Stuart Turner

Flying trio Star Of Ibrox, Ella Has Class and Cristalle Coco all look strong chances at Tuesday’s strong Gosford meeting.

Star Of Ibrox goes from box four in race three over 515m on the back of two impressive victories, including a 30.09 run over the 520m at Wentworth Park last Monday night.

That triumph over a field containing boom pup Fantastic Tail took the son of Head Bound and Ibrox Laura’s record to five wins from seven starts.

He has been a handful for trainer couple William and Cathy Dance but they are being rewarded for their patience.

“He’s a very immature dog (and) very big as well,” Cathy said. “He will grab my arm in the yard and pull me around.

“Mark Moroney’s dog in seven (Aurora Fire) is very fast to the first turn but I don’t think he is overly strong.

“It was like a pinball at Wentworth Park last Monday but Star Of Ibrox got his head down and pushed through.

“He knows Gosford and has the wins on the board.  He doesn’t ping the lids like he did initially, but if he gets a clear run and comes out fine, he’ll be hard to beat.”

Aurora Fire had a solid 30.33 win at Gosford last month and looks the toughest opposition for Star Of Ibrox here.

In-form Ella Has Class (box two) looks the best bet of the night in race five over 600m.

DEAN Swain’s hopeful has had two superb wins over the 600m, including clocking 34.30 while beating a strong field at Dapto last Thursday night.

Cristalle Coco goes for a hat-trick of successes from box four in the Spud Regis @Stud Final 1-3 Wins (race 6, 600m).

The daughter of Brett Lee and Cristalle has impressed since stepping up to the middle distances two starts ago, winning on both occasions.

Kenneth Barden’s greyhound clocked 35.05 winning here last week and despite the tough box draw can win again here.

Star Of Ibrox is the latest in a solid breeding line for the Dances, who work out of Somersby on the NSW Central Coast.

The couple have been involved with the sport for almost 30 years, with William also working full-time in security.

“When I was a little kid my parents said, ‘Stay away from greyhounds – they are vicious,’ Cath said. “They couldn’t have been more wrong.

“We have had down moments in life but the greyhounds keep you going. It doesn’t matter how they race – you still have to look after them.

“They’re not just a number to me – I love them.”
