Medusa's Me Mum Back And Flying

By Jeff Collerson

Medusa's Me Mum has not raced for seven months but is ready to maintain her unbeaten record when she makes her debut for her new trainer at Wentworth Park on Saturday night.

Medusa’s Me Mum has a near ideal box three draw in the seventh heat of the 520m Ladbrokes Sprint Series for fifth graders (race 10).

Now trained by Russell Mansley at Black Hill, Newcastle, Medusa’s Me Mum has not started since winning at Wentworth Park in a slick 29.85 on September 19.

She broke the 30 second barrier in each of three races for former trainer Beau Hedley and Mansley said she is trialling well.

“I have only had Medusa’s Me Mum for three weeks but she clocked 29.84 for me in a trial at Gosford on March 31,’’ Mansley said.

“As that was her first serious hit-out for over six months one would hope there would be a bit of natural improvement in her for Saturday night.’’

Medusa’s Me Mum won her only race from box three and on Saturday has tight railer Aeroplane Blazer drawn inside her in box two with speedy Lunar Sky, who tends to race in the centre of the course, in box four.

Hobby trainer Daniel Browne believes Zipping Kendra could be a sharp improver in Saturday night’s final of the Ladbrokes Stayers Series (720m).

Zipping Kendra came from third early to finish a distant second in Amy Parker’s heat when the winner clocked 42.62.

Fastest heat winner was Ada Mary who led throughout in 42.53 but she has drawn awkwardly in box six.

Amy Parker (box five) is a fast beginner and among the widest runners in training.

“I’m rapt Zipping Kendra has drawn box one and she should be a better greyhound this week than she was in her heat,’’ Browne said.

Lumik Dragon in box two has been beginning slowly and Titan Sky in three uses a bit of the track.

Zipping Kendra pulled up well after her heat run last week and didn’t have a trace of soreness.

Immediately after the race she was puffing a bit which was enough to indicate to me she should improve a little.

“Early in her career Zipping Kendra clocked 43.30 in finishing second over 720m but she has had a far better preparation for this race.

“I think she is capable of getting down to around 42.70 or 42.80 on Saturday night so hopefully that will be good enough to win it.’’

Are Jip, who runs his best races when drawn wide, is the only genuine free for all dog in Saturday’s Platinum Beats Mobile DJ Cup so looks hard to toss from box seven.

Are Jip has won four of his eight starts from the two outside boxes and at his first run after a spell was a solid third to Chasing The Line in a slick 29.88 at Wentworth Park last Saturday night.

Good value on Saturday is the well boxed Senorita Pearl, who has drawn seven in heat two of the Ladbrokes Sprint Series.

Senorita Pearl was bumped twice going through the catching pen before fading to finish third to Establish in 30.23 here last week.

Late last month trialled a smart 29.87 at the Sydney track.

She has a great draw on Saturday because Bobby Blanco (box eight) is a slow beginner who should ensure she isn’t crowded going into the first corner.
