Bell Hoping Pearl Can Shine Again

By Jeff Collerson

Trainer Ron Bell admits he was “terribly disappointed’’ by Senorita">Senorita Pearl’s sixth to My Awesome Opal at Wentworth Park last week but is hoping a move to a wide draw will see her land her second win at the track tonight.

Senorita Pearl’s form was excellent before last week when she was sent out a $4 chance from box three but beat only two home.

She jumps from box six in the night's third race, the Rapidvite Bitches Only Stakes (520m), and Bell is hopeful the draw will be helpful here.

“I was really confident last week because she had been going so well,’’ Bell said.

“She ran a good third to Ballistic Tip at Wenty, then won in fast time at The Gardens before trialling 29.87 at Wentworth Park.

Senorita Pearl had box three last week and although she is a railer her best form at The Gardens has been from outside boxes.

“I’m starting to think she might go better when she doesn’t have too many dogs on her outside.’’

Senorita Pearl has won four of her 12 races from boxes six and seven and appears to have a suitable draw on Thursday.

Swan’s Mavis (box five) is a keen railer while Revalap in box four is a notoriously slow starter.

Adelaide trainer Bosko Stamenkovic brings his well performed greyhounds Mobius">Mobius and Boojerooma">Boojerooma to Sydney for Thursday’s first two heats of the Rapidvite series.

Mobius, who has won seven of 16 starts, has box four in heat one while Boojerooma, winner of eght from 22 races, has drawn seven in heat two

Mobius is the quicker of the two but is crying out for a middle distance and Boojerooma has more early pace and has a better draw,’’ Stamenkovic said.

“I have given them two trials each at Wentworth Park and I’m glad I did because they didn’t handle the track too well, especially the first turn.

Mobius’s best time was 30.06 while Boojerooma’s best was 30.12 and while they ran home in excellent figures of 11.70 seconds,  their early splits were disappointing.

“At home Boojerooma shows explosive early pace but in her Wenty trials she only ran around 5.60 to the first mark and didn’t break 14 seconds to the second point.

“They are probably accustomed to their local track Angle Park, which is roomier than Wenty, so I’m hoping the two trials in Sydney will have them ready to reproduce their SA form.’’

Best bet on Thursday is Rue De Kahn (pictured, pink rug), the 2014 National Futurity winner, who has box one in heat four of the Rapidvite.

She made the pace when second to Dawkins Bale in a Golden Easter Egg heat on March 21 and drops sharply in class on Thursday night.
