Rose Of Galo In The Pink For Albion Park

By Stuart Turner

Albie Kennewell is already targeting Group success for Rose Of Galo but first he is aiming for victory at Thursday’s Albion Park meeting.

Last year’s Group 2 Black Top winner (pictured), who returned after almost seven months out last week with a second-place finish at the track, jumps from box two in the Sky Racing Stakes (520m).

This is quality race, with Abby’s Fantasy (box one) and Bill’s Fantasy among the likely contenders.

Rose Of Galo will again face Kulu Cha Ching (box seven), who finished ahead of her last week, but Kennewell believes the tables may be turned this time.

“I’m quietly confident of the win,” he said.

“I was encouraged by last week. She missed the start and didn’t ping the lids like she normally does, but she chased all the way home.

“I would have preferred her drawn in the seven or eight as she likes it out wide, but she has a good record from the two. I don’t think she has missed a placing from there.

“It’s a really good field but I expect her to go well.”

Rose Of Galo ran well on her return last week, missing the start but chasing hard to finish behind Kulu Cha Ching in 30.09.

Kennewell is already targeting a crack at next month’s Group 3 Ladies Bracelet at Wentworth Park for his charge, who has 21 wins and 20 minor placings from 59 starts to her name.

Rose of Galo placed in last year’s final behind winner Zipping Willow and Ritza Hattie.

If she maintains fitness and form, the trainer said a defence of her Black Top crown is also possible.

Kennewell also spruiked his chaser Torque Flight, who jumps from box one in the first heat of the $40,000-to-the-winner Group 2 Ipswich Auction Series (520m) this Friday.

The fledgling chaser has won two from two so far over the 431m at Ipswich.

“He’s going to be a good greyhound,” Kennewell said. “I might have a look at the Black Top with him as well if he keeps going like this.

“He might tire as the 520m at Ipswich is a hard run, but if gets out like he has they won’t catch him.”

Recent Group 2 Vince Curry Memorial Maiden winner Heidi Benz looks a strong chance in race two at Albion Park.

Reliable performers Mullaway (race seven) and Blue I Am in race nine also look strong contenders.
