Third Time Lucky For Lach's Wish

By Noel Ovington

Lach's Wish, a semi-finalist in the 2013 Group 1 Sportingbet Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park, is ready to notch up her first 600m win in heat one of the United Technology Services Middle Distance Series at Dapto tonight.

Lach's Wish was having her first start over the middle distance trip when she finished third behind Ruffonic at Dapto on January 2 before a close fourth in the race won by Supercell a week later.

"I trialled her at Dapto and she went 35.17 but in her two starts over the 600m she has been slowly away and struck trouble," trainer Adam Campton said.

"It took her a while to start jumping over the 500s so maybe the corner start over the 600m at Dapto has taken her a bit of getting used to.

"At her first two 600m starts she has come from nowhere and really found the line well.

"Hopefully this is the week where she will jump and settle a lot closer.

"I would love to see what she can do with a clear run."

Campton said he decided to step Lach's Wish up in distance after scoring a smart win in 30.24 at Wentworth Park on December 20.

"She is up to a third grade dog at Wenty and because she doesn't have a lot of early speed she will find it a lot harder," he said.

"But she ran home in 11.80 at her last Wentworth Park start which is pretty strong so I thought it was a good time to step her up in distance.

"And when I saw that Dapto were running a fifth grade series I thought that would be an ideal place to start.

"Sometimes when you nominate for a 600m race you don't know what you are going to be up against, but with this series at least you know all dogs will be the same grade."
