Mackay Wins Wentworth Park Title

By Jeff Collerson

Jason MACKAY, who became a full-time trainer 20 years ago, has scored a comfortable win in the 2013 Greyhound Recorder Wentworth Park trainers’ premiership.

MACKAY (pictured) trained 41 winners from 104 starters. The Richmond Vale mentor started the year with a bang and the winners kept coming, including landing two of the four semi-finals of the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg at Wentworth Park.

One of those winners was Punch One Out, who shattered the track record and trounced Grigorieva Bale in the process.

Grigorieva Bale won the final in which Punch One Out was desperately unlucky after bungling the start and being skittled early.

While they were in his father Ian’s name Jason trained his first winners, Triple Harmony and Silky Jason, at Muswellbrook as a 13-year-old.

Jason cites Dave Irwin and Victoria’s Bobby Douglas, who trained 2002 Goden Easter Egg winner Carlisle Jack, as his inspirations.

It is the first time MACKAY has won the Wentworth Park trainers' premiership
