Forecast Good For Finding A Winner

By Jeff Collerson

On times from Monday night’s heats Raincheck has the equivalent of around seven lengths on his seven rivals in tonight's Macro Meats Maiden Final at Wentworth Park.

And while Raincheck’s heat time of 30.29 was a big improvement on his disclosed form, trainer Peter Lagogiane was not surprised that the fawn dog was able to record those figures.

"Raincheck has always been able to run," Peter said.

"He clocked 30.59 in his performance trial at Wentworth Park on December 2 and when he did that he had never seen the track before and appeared to get a bit lost.

"I must admit I was disappointed by his first couple of starts at Richmond and Gosford because Raincheck trials fast at both tracks.

"He is a 22.60 dog over the 400m at Richmond.

"My only worry on Friday is that he has box four and is a moderate beginner who wants to find the rails quickly.

"It was great to win at Wenty on Monday with him because his owner Vince Murray, a concreter, was there along with his son who had flown out from America for the festive season.

"And Vince told me his father had owned greyhounds but had never managed a city winner."

One of Raincheck’s main rivals on Friday is Mortsanator, trained by Jack Tatian for NRL stars Liam Fulton and Bryce Gibbs.

The footballers landed their first Wentworth Park winning double on Monday night with Mortsanator and Gibbonator so are hoping their luck has changed.

Their best dog, Fultonator, snapped a leg in a fall at The Gardens a month ago after winning there in a slick 22.90 and at Richmond in a smart 22.70.

"Fultonator was going to be our big Wentworth Park hope but this litter we race, out of Hell Girl, has been marvellous just the same and has produced seven winners," Liam Fulton said.

"A friend of our trainer Jack Tatian owns Hell Girl and he loaned her to us to breed with in return for a puppy from her litter.

"I’ve had 10 seasons in the NRL and am going around again in 2014 in the back row for Wests Tigers."

Ron Bell trained a remarkable 110 winners in 2013 and should start the new year with a bang by landing a winner with Nagini.

Nagini has drawn two in the Bohemia Crystal Stakes.

Nagini showed terrific pace to lead early at her Wentworth Park debut last Saturday but while she dropped out to finish seventh she faces much weaker opposition on Friday.

Nagini in boxed to lead again and with a slick 29.98 win at The Gardens under her belt should be first out and first home.
