The Million Dollar Chase Consolation is for the eight greyhounds which have finished second in the semi-finals of the world’s richest greyhound race a week earlier at Wentworth Park, and narrowly missed start in the big race.

In its inaugural year, the Consolation was taken out by first reserve True Talent leading all the way from box 5. True Talent, trained by Hunter Valley mentor Jason Mackay, had gained a start following an injury to Victorian speedster Benali.

In 2019 the race went to young trainer Tim Caines whose dog Nangar Jack led throughout from box 8 to clock 29.73s. Coincidentally, this was the exact time run by True Talent 12 months earlier.

In 2020, the event was won by the Peter Lagogiane-trained Shetland. An impressive runner-up to West Australian Tommy Shelby in the MDC semi-finals, Shetland proved the form with a dazzling all the way win in 29.91s. Like his kennelmate Handsome Prince in the main event, Shetland jumped from Peter's lucky box 7.

In 2022 the Jason Mackay-trained Zipping Maserati narrowly missed a spot in the final of the TAB Million Dollar Chase, but he managed to salvage something for connections with a brilliant all the way win on the Consolation of the race, clocking a slick 29.57s in beating an unlucky Fernando Hunter and Jabeni.

In 2023, it was the super mum, Idolize, who made a wonderful return to one of her favourite tracks to take out the MDC Consolation race ahead of Magistrate.

She was already a G1 winner at Wentworth Park after a brilliant National Futurity victory at the beginning of 2022 and after having a stint on the sidelines following the birth of a litter of pups, she was back to her best in 2023 for Pete Presutto.

It was de ja vu all over again in September 2022 when Zipping Maserati again narrowly missed a spot in the MDC final, but eight days later came out and led throughout to win the MDC Consolation.

Trained by Marty Hallinan, the star sprinter's win was also a consolation for the near miss of Zipping Kyrgios for Hallinan in the night's major event.
