Greyhounds As Pets Online Adoption Day On Saturday

By thedogs.com.au
It used to be the case that the more things change, the more they stay the same. But in 2020, very few things have remained the same, and greyhound adoption is no different.

The annual National Adoption Day in April was a COVID casualty, as were numerous smaller events scheduled throughout the year. But in 2020, it’s about being creative and that’s exactly what the people at Greyhound As Pets have done with this Saturday’s first ever, Online Adoption Day.

A total of 24 dogs will be available between 10am and 3pm, and the day will provide the perfect safe and contact-free opportunity to meet a potential new family member.

Those interested can apply at www.gapnsw.com.au/application and your details will be matched with the suitable greyhounds.

You will be given an appointment time, and then on the day, the GAPNSW team will conduct a Zoom call where you can meet your potential new greyhound, and be taken through all of their natural behaviours and personality quirks, as well as having all your questions answered.

If you love them, then you can adopt then and there, or organise for a face to face meeting just to be sure.

“We have just experienced a record-breaking year of GAP assisted rehomings, up 84% on the previous 12 months,” GAP General Manager Dr Alicia Fuller said. “Although we were unable to hold our Adoption Days as usual, we were buoyed by the fact that during COVID we saw a dramatic rise in applications for adopting and fostering greyhounds.

“Our facilities at Wyee on the Central Coast and at Londonderry are both open and we have been doing COVID safe appointments, but we understand that some people may not feel comfortable in that environment at present, or in meeting unknown people they don’t necessarily need to.

“And at the same time some may not want to travel out of their area. We thought an this unique type of Adoption Day would be the perfect way to cater for everyone.

“You may not be able pat them, but this is a way to meet and greet what we hope will be the latest addition to your family.”
