Dapto Megastar Invitees Announced

By Jess Moran

The five invitees for this year's Group 1 Greyhound Data Megastar (520m) at Dapto have been confirmed.

A selection panel chose Bessy Boo, Fantastic Dotty, Flash Reality, Keybow and Rue De Kahn as the five invitees, meaning they each gain an automatic spot in the Group 1 event on September 11.

Just a day after winning the Group 3 Dapto Maiden, Fantastic Dotty will face the toughest test of her short career when she lines up in the Megastar.

The Jason Fletcher-trained greyhound showed she is up to the task, however, lowering the 520m Dapto track record set by Double Twist in 2013 by 0.01 to 29.43. Just a week later, she smashed her own record and set a new best time at the track of 29.34.

To add to an already impressive list of achievements, Fantastic Dotty last night took out the final of the Dapto Maiden at the track in a thrilling, last stride victory.

Last year's Group 1 Peter Mosman winner Bessy Boo will be looking to capitalise on a recent run of good form which saw him win the NSW Sprint final before finishing a gallant second to Fernando Bale the following week in the National Sprint Championship.

The Christine Proctor-trained greyhound has an impressive career record of 27 wins from 91 starts and has won more than $240,000 in prize-money.

Rue De Kahn has multiple Group race titles to her name including last year's Group 1 National Futurity and this year's Group 3 Richmond Oaks.

The DEAN Swain-trained greyhound is no stranger to Group finals having qualified more than half a dozen throughout her career.

Despite having been off the track for nearly two months, connections report she is fit and firing and will be ready for the race.

This will be Flash Reality's second appearance in the Dapto Megastar after also being invited to last year's race where he finished third behind Tommy Brislane and Ritza Hattie.

The greyhound who is trained by Queensland's Tony Brett also has a very impressive record which includes wins in the Group 1 Winter Cup and Group 2 Queensland Derby at Abion Park.

Rounding out the invitees is multiple Group 1 winner Keybow (pictured) who is now also under the keen eye of Brett. His most recent victory came in the Queensland State final of the National Sprint series at Albion Park before running third behind Fernando Bale and Bessy Boo in the National Final.

Also on Keybow's list of accomplishments are the Group 1 Perth and Brisbane Cup’s as well as the Group 3 Silver Bullet.

Joining these five invitees will be three qualifiers from the prelude on Thursday, September 3.

National Sprint Championship winner Fernando Bale was initially being considered for the Dapto Megastar, however, connections decided against entering an expression of interest for him.
