Lachy Balboa Another Knockout Hope For Bulli

By Stuart Turner

Track record holder Lachy Balboa is in “perfect” condition ahead of a high-quality www.stayersclubnsw.net Stakes (590m) at Bulli tonight.

That is the verdict from trainer Mark Bell, whose greyhound will jump from box five in what looks a superb fourth race on the card.

It is a great night of racing at Bulli, with quality contenders Shady Ace, Aphorism and Bertacious Bee also in action.

Lachy Balboa ran a terrific 33.34 last week from box one and Bell thinks a repeat of that excellent performance is possible.

“There is no reason why he cannot do that again,” Bell said. “He is in perfect condition and everything is going well for him at the moment.

“(But) he did want the inside last week. This is a much tougher race with a good field.

“Box five is always hard so I think it’s all going to come down to the start.”

A son of legendary Brett Lee x Cristalle, Lachy Balboa has been in great form recently.

Last week’s track record win took Lachy Balboa’s record to four wins and four minor placings from 12 starts.

He has won three and placed twice on his last five starts and has a decent record from the squeeze boxes.

Lithgow Panther looks the most dangerous challenger from box four, while Master Grey (box one) and Martin Clegg in box three are also contenders.

“I think the one and the three have big chances,” Bell said.

“He will have to come out and sit second or third or he has no chance.

“If he can get across and lead then he has a chance, but with his box it will be hard.”

Shady Ace earned a terrific maiden win by a huge 18 lengths over the 520m at Nowra last start.

The Garry Edwards-trained greyhound goes in race three tonight over the same distance and looks a strong chance to repeat that triumph.

Recent Group 3 New Sensation runner-up Aphorism also looks a strong contender in an eye-catching race seven over the 400m.

The Shaun Evans-trained sprinter looks ideally drawn in box three ahead of a quality field containing strong NSW country track performer Clonakilty Man.

Last year’s Group 2 Dapto Puppy Classic winner Bertacious Bee looks the one to back in race six.

He has been racing solidly recently and has a strong record at Bulli.
