Mackay's Double Threat For Maitland Cup

By thedogs.com.au

Jason MACKAY is in a strong position to take out the Group 2 PPK Group Limited Maitland Cup (450m) with the Richmond Valley trainer preparing two of the heat winners on Friday night.

Zipping Saxon and Black Frenzy both took out their respective heats in impressive fashion for MACKAY, with Zipping Saxon taking time honours with a brilliant 24.91 win.

Jumping from box one, Zipping Saxon began brilliantly and was never headed, romping away to a 4 1/4 length win over Winsome Jacko and Pierro Kade.

Black Frenzy, meanwhile, took out his heat later in the night, overcoming a gallant Abunda and fast finishing Bundy Bear to win in 25.21.

Zipping Saxon is likely to be the favourite for the Group 2 Maitland Cup after drawing box one once again for the feature event. Black Frenzy, meanwhile, will have his work cut out for him, with the greyhound drawing box eight.

Upset of the night came in the final heat when the Jonny Sledzianowski-trained Altered Mist upset his more fancied rivals to win at odds nearing 50-1.

Having his 46th start, Altered Mist got a good jump from box two and never looked in danger, winning by 2 1/2 lengths over Rivergum Drive in 25.47.

The box draw for next Friday's Group 2 PPK Group Limited Maitland Cup is: 1. ZZipping Saxon 2. Camacho 3. Jack Kade 4. Altered Mist 5. Silver Label 6. La Grand Logie 7. Spacecraft 8. Black Frenzy 9. Winsome Jacko 10. Queen Charlie
