Statement - Keinbah Trial Track

By GRNSW

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) would like to make the following statement about Keinbah Trial Track:

"There have been three investigations undertaken at the Keinbah Trial Track site since early 2014 – one by RSPCA NSW, one by GRNSW (both in 2014) and one in early 2015 by former NSW Police Deputy Commissioner David Madden.

This week GRNSW interim CEO Paul Newson referred the findings of Mr Madden’s report to NSW Police, and RSPCA NSW for their consideration of what, if any, further investigation may be appropriate.

It is premature to form a view on whether the property contains a mass greyhound gravesite, and it is appropriate to recognise this identification of bones and greyhound training activities have occurred at the property over some time. This is remarkable from the disturbing find near Bundaberg and presents some difficult evidentiary and practical challenges.

GRNSW encourages anyone who may have evidence of animal cruelty in NSW greyhound racing, including any evidence of mass graves or any further information related to the Keinbah Trial Track, to contact the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Hotline to ensure the matter can be fully investigated.

All concerns lodged with the Hotline are collected by Service NSW and subsequently assessed for intelligence purposes and potential investigation or compliance action by GRNSW. Where matters relate to alleged misconduct of GRNSW staff or raise matters that are better dealt with by another agency, such as NSW Police or the RSPCA, they are escalated to the relevant regulatory authority or referred for independent investigation as appropriate.

Members of the public can contact the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Hotline 24/7 through the following methods:

• by phone on 1800 680 174; or

• at its website at www.greyhoundwelfare.com.au

Mr Madden’s report has also been provided to the Special Commission of Inquiry into Greyhound Racing in NSW for its consideration."
