Who Is The Boss At Cannington?

By Stuart Turner

Fun Boss cannot afford tardiness this week but he still looks a great chance to take out Saturday’s Gibbons Holden Gosnells Puppy Classic (530m) decider at Cannington.

That is the verdict from owner-trainer Lexia Isaac ahead of the $13,500-to-the-winner race, where her charge will jump from box two.

Fun Boss has won five and placed four times on each of his nine starts so far but paid for a slow start in last week’s heat.

He was overtaken by Canon Ruler in the home straight and finished second but Isaac thinks the tables may be turned this time around.

“He missed the start from box five last week,” she said. “He had to work really hard to catch up and I think that took it out of him.

Obviously the inside draw helps. He likes the rail and won’t have to crash across.

“Normally he is a good beginner and if can start as he is capable, I think he can win here.”

A son of Kinloch Brae x Alotta Fun, Fun Boss looks a hot prospect and with this draw looks the top pick here in the night’s fifth race.

Ruble Monelli (box seven) won well with the same draw last week and looks the next best prospect in the final.

Crashing Packs is in good form and should be strong from box one, while former Tasmanian Silver Pierre has sound ability and also ran impressively last week.

In other action at Cannington, Allen Eryk looks the bet of the night in race eight.

Take Romeo’s Comet in race six and Just Ducal (race seven) to complete the quaddie.

Isaac has been involved with greyhounds for about 20 years and co-owns Fun Boss with family members.

She worked with show dogs before moving into racing and works out of the Perth suburb of Harrisdale.

“I knew Fun Boss would be decent,” she said with a smile. “My daughter Cheryl picked him for us and we normally have plenty of luck with the ones she picks.

“I love greyhounds. They are so good-natured and beautiful.

“It’s so exciting seeing the good ones you have bred yourself in action.

“I really enjoy the challenge and it gets me out of bed every day.”
