Coconut Grove Looks Final Pick

By Stuart Turner

Coconut Grove looks back to his best and ready to claim another title at Cannington on Saturday night.

This year’s Group 2 WA All Star Sprint champion jumps from box four in the night’s feature race, the Greyhounds WA Anniversary Cup Final (530m).

Paul Stuart’s sprinter is a class performer on his day but recorded a below-par effort two runs back at Cannington over the longer 642m.

He bounced back well last week with a good win over his favoured 530m at the track and looks the one to beat here.

A son of Bit Chili x Smell The Roses, Coconut Grove can be unpredictable but looks too strong for the rest here.

The versatile greyhound has a strong record over this distance and the draw should not prove too difficult provided he can get past the inconsistent but dangerous West On Santo (box three).

In other action at Cannington, two hopefuls are strong chances to continue their winning form.

Consistent Expect A Guess goes for a sixth consecutive win in the night’s ninth race.

Christine Robartson’s stayer has drawn well again in box two and looks a cut above this field.

Another greyhound from the Stuart kennel, Starlight Jack, looks the one to watch in race three.

The pup had been slightly overshadowed by exciting kennelmates Tureaud and Quartz Bale early in his career but proved his class with victory in last month’s Group 3 WA Young Stars Classic.

He now has 10 wins and five placings from 16 starts and should be too good here with the red rug.

Other strong chances at Cannington are Premier Fun in race four and race seven’s Luba Monelli.
