Mr. Amino To Apply The Acid Test

By Noel Ovington

Five months away from the racetrack has rejuvenated the career of Mr. Amino and he is set to make it two wins since resuming in race eight at Goulburn this afternoon.

Mr. Amino was trained by his owner Richard Piec for his first two starts but was prepared for his first-up Canberra win by Collector-based Kim Mulrine.

"He had a couple of niggling injuries and my husband Andrew was helping Richard with the dog and in the end he said 'you may as well train him'," Kim said.

Mr. Amino won a 457m performance trial at Goulburn on August 13 last year in 26.36 before making his debut with a third at the track a week later. The following week he finished second over the same course and distance.

Mr. Amino resumed for the Mulrines at Canberra on January 19, where he made an instant impression winning by 13 3/4 lengths in 25.54 for the 440m.

"He bolted in at Canberra," Kim said.

"It was a very impressive win and hopefully he can keep up the good work at Goulburn this afternoon. The dog does have a lot of ability and he knows the track well.

"He showed plenty of early pace at Canberra; I think he came out under the lids he went that fast. I think he's well drawn in box three so hopefully he can do the right thing today.
