First-Up And Ready To Rock

By Jeff Collerson

Jay Bee Rock has not raced for three months but a slick trial at Richmond last Monday indicates he is ready to run boldly first-up at Wentworth Park on Friday night.

The Ray Webster-trained dog has box one in race five and has a 50 per cent winning strike rate from the rails, having won four of his eight starts wearing the red rug.

“At his latest Wentworth Park race on October 5 Jay Bee Rock strained an Achilles tendon,’’ Webster said.

“He needed six weeks off but then he has been back in work for a further six weeks so is pretty fit.

“I trialled him post- to-post at Richmond last Monday and he went as well as ever.’’

Jay Bee Rock has an ideal draw as Queen Esther (box two) usually steps to the right at the start while Prince Tanga (box three) and Baz Will Rock (box four) are wide runners.

In race ten Collision Post is no world beater but the Michael Nicoalou-owned dog gets a golden opportunity to score a Wentworth Park win after drawing box two.

Collision Post jumped in front when fifth at his Wentworth Park debut last Friday night but ran a better race when second all-the-way in handy time over 515m at Gosford on Tuesday night.

Before his first start at Wenty I gave Collision Post a couple of post-to-post handslips there and he clocked 24.80 and 24.70,’’ Nicoalou said.

“He began well last week but then found a bit of trouble early.

“I was pleased with his Gosford run because it was a strong field.

“He pulled up well after Tuesday night and should run a good race.’’

Friday night’s best bet is Cawbourne Cobra, who has box one in race three.

The JODIE Lord-trained dog was an unlucky second at his Wentworth Park debut from box four on December 20 and dwelt at the start Before showing good pace to be fourth in the middle stages when sixth in a harder race there eight days later.

Cawbourne Cobra has registered three wins and five seconds from 11 starts and should only need a clean getaway to lead throughout from his good draw.

Here’s Roary had box two when he led throughout at Wentworth Park last Saturday but box eight in Friday night’s eighth race is every bit as good.

Last week the Ron Alcock-trained dog ran out and collided with Prince Zamunda at box rise, but displayed great tenacity to retain the lead and hold on to score clearly.

His time of 30.39 was moderate but Here’s Roary has won in 30.21 at Dapto so is obviously capable of improving on last Saturday’s figures.

He uses a bit of the track so looks ideally drawn and boasts the nice Wentworth Park strike rate of two wins and two seconds from seven starts.
