Hazlett Happy With Draw

By Jeff Collerson
Has Ability was slowest of the three heat winners, but trainer Stuart Hazlett believes a favourable draw and the benefit of last week's run will enable his dog to take out Wednesday night's GRNSW Middle Distance Series final at Richmond.

In last week's heats Ken Markham's If You Say set the time standard with a 35.75 win over the 622m, Mark Bell's Code Blue Tom won his heat in 35.79, and Has Ability stopped the clock at 35.84.

Has Ability has box two on Wednesday while If You Say, who raced wide in his heat, has drawn three with Code Blue Tom, who railed superbly from box one last week, will wear the pink box eight rug.

Stuart Hazlett said: "I'm very happy with Has Ability's draw because I don't think Froch in box one has great early speed and Kenny's dog If You Say should give my bloke room to move.

"I bumped into Mark Bell at a slipping track before the draw came out and he said 'We both want an inside box' but I've got it.

"When Has Ability won last week he was having his first middle-distance race since Gosford on February 27 so I expect him to improve, he should go faster.

"What I'm especially excited about is that Has Ability has become my first greyhound in 55 years as a trainer to earn over $100,000 in prizemoney.''

Goulburn Girl's kennelmate Hannah Hawke almost certainly brought about her defeat when she was runner-up to What Can Do over 720m at Wentworth Park last Saturday night and they meet again in Wednesday's GRNSW Stayers 1-4 Wins Stakes over 722m.

What Can Do defeated Goulburn Girl by just over a length at Wentworth Park after Hannah Hawke had baulked and hampered her kennelmate at least twice during the race.

Hannah Hawke forced Goulburn Girl off the track with a lap to go and then crowded her when Goulburn Girl attempted to rail underneath her on the back straight.

Their trainer Greg Hore said: "They don't usually come together like that but it certainly didn't help Goulburn Girl's chances.

"They both want the fence but at Richmond on Wednesday Goulburn Girl has box one and Hannah Hawke is in six so I would think it's unlikely they will tangle up again.

"Goulburn Girl is ideally boxed so she gets her chance at Richmond.''

Ollie Impact found trouble from box seven when fourth to Poco Rico in a fourth and fifth grade at Richmond last Wednesday and should atone after drawing box one in this week's Happy Birthday James Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

At his previous start, over 520m in top grade at Wentworth Park on March 16, Ollie Impact was second early and was far from disgraced when fourth to Good Odds Cobber, Nangar Larry, and Hooked On Fame, a trio of outstanding Wenty performers.

Trainer Luke Azzopardi said: "Ollie Impact's run that night was fantastic and if he goes as good on Wednesday as he did then he should be winning.''

Hottest favourite on Wednesday will be Good Odds Cobber, who has had five wins and a second from seven starts at Wentworth Park and who will exit box three in the 520m Flying Ricciardo At Stud Stakes.

Early in his career Good Odds Cobber was unplaced in two Richmond races but he has since twice trialled brilliantly there and trainer Frank Hurst's kennels are a mere stone's throw from the Londonderry circuit.
