Sensation Not Egg For Cobber

By The Dogs Team
Frank and Tracey Hurst have made the big decision that their promising young dog Good Odds Cobber will not contest the $350,000 Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg.

Heats of the Golden Easter Egg will be run next Saturday night at Wentworth Park, and following his recent wins at the city track in 29.45s and 29.49s - as well as a stunning 29.33s back in January - Good Odds Cobber was considered one of the leading chances for the series and one of the top five in the pre-nomination markets for the Group 1 event.

But the Hursts have decided to instead aim Good Odds Cobber at the Group 3 Simply Limelight New Sensation with those heats run the following Wednesday, April 3 and the $$40,000 final on Golden Easter Egg Final night, April 13.

“Frank and I thought long and hard about it, but in the end it was all about what is best for the dog,” Tracey Hurst said on Monday.

“He’s only so young, he’s just turned two in January, so hopefully there will be plenty of time for those other big races.

“The New Sensation is an age event which he is only eligible for this year and these age races don’t come around all the time, so we made that decision we have made.

“He’s a young dog and obviously has a lot of ability, but it’s not about chasing the big prizemoney races. It can’t be about money, and it never is, it’s about looking after the dogs, and we feel that the best way to do that with Good Odds Cobber right now is to go to the New Sensation.”

With no run next weekend in the Egg heats, Good Odds Cobber will now have his next start on Wednesday night at Richmond over the 520m.
