Glycerine Ready For First Win At Headquarters

By Jeff Collerson
GLYCERINE gave trainer Andrew Katalinic a placegetter with his first Wentworth Park start last Wednesday and is drawn to go one better on Wednesday night.

GLYCERINE has box seven in the preferred box draw Ladbrokes Sports Bar Stakes, a 520m fifth grade, and Katalinic said: "Out there is where he wants to be.

"He was my first Wenty starter in five years' training when he ran second to Shepherd's Way last week and I think he can only improve."

"Before last Wednesday I gave GLYCERINE a post-to-post slip at Wentworth Park and he clocked 24.70, then I took him back for another look and he recorded 24.40.

"He is a one-pace kind of dog, he doesn't have blistering early speed and his middle section is nothing flash, but he gets to the line good.

"If he nails the start I think he can run around 5.50 to the first mark and that just might be good enough to lead this field.''

GLYCERINE's danger looks to be the Jack Smith-trained Irinka Lottie, who was a certainty beaten when third, from box eight, on debut at Wentworth Park on February 16.

Irinka Lottie is not endowed with great early pace but she looked about to surge to the lead going through the catching pen when she was skittled by a wide runner and lost all chance.

Ritza Smoke has been placed in only two of his past four starts at Wentworth Park but trainer Mark Gatt has urged punters to ignore that patchy record when assessing form for Wednesday's Ladbrokes Communities Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Ritza Smoke was third from box six at Wentworth Park on February 10, second from box eight there six nights later, and sixth, from box seven, at headquarters last Wednesday.

But Gatt believes box one on Wednesday will bring Ritza Smoke back into the winner's circle.

Ritza Smoke

"He is a case for the inside draw,'' Gatt said.

"Ritza Smoke just doesn't know what to do from wide boxes, he is a different dog from the inside.

"Although his recent form doesn't look too flash he is going good enough to win on Wednesday.

"I also have Sammy Ethan in box four in the same race and while he is a good, honest dog, he is nowhere near as quick as Ritza Smoke.''

Good Odds Cobber, winner of this year's Beast Unleashed Gosford Gold Cup, should have too much class for his rivals in Wednesday night's Save The Date Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

On their best Wentworth Park times Good Odds Cobber, with a personal best of a sizzling 29.33, has "a minute" on his nearest rival Overflow Jill's 29.60.

Good Odds Cobber found trouble when sixth in the Ladbrokes Bulli Gold Cup final on February 16 before again having no luck when fourth to Go Bears in a heat of the Ladbrokes Richmond Derby last Friday night.

"He got run off the track at Richmond last week but there is nothing wrong with the dog, he pulled up well,'' trainer Frank Hurst said.

"Although he has won 13 of 22 starts Good Odds Cobber is actually a fifth-grade dog at Wentworth Park so he is back in his right class in Wednesday's fourth and fifth grade.

"He has box four but having an empty box on his outside won't hurt him.''

Another greyhound with a clear time advantage over his rivals on Wednesday is Zipping Megatron, who has box one in the Ladbrokes Racing Club Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Zipping Megatron posted a brilliant 29.42 from box one at Wentworth Park on October 13 and again excelled from that draw when he beat subsequent final winner Nangar Larry in a heat of the Bulli Gold Cup on February 11.

With wide-running Nacho Queen drawn outside him in box two on Wednesday, Zipping Megatron should lead the first turn and lead his rivals a merry dance.
