Vale - Eddie Kingswell

By Jeff Collerson
Eddie Kingswell, one of greyhound racing's most successful owner of the past 25 years, passed away on Tuesday morning after being diagnosed with brain cancer in early 2021.

Kingswell, who was 73, was a retired banker and a racing pigeon fancier who raced dozens of good greyhounds from his Thirlmere property with trainer Mark Gatt.

"The best of his many smart dogs would have been Oaks Road and Stanley Road,'' Gatt said.

"He was always a pleasure to train for, he believed in letting his trainer do his thing.

"His philosophy was to buy the best and breed from the best and that was why he was so successful.''

Stanley Road, who is being set for next month's Ladbrokes 715 at LADBROKES GARDENS, won the group 1 Fanta Bale Super Stayers and Association Cup along with the group 2 Summer Distance Plate and group 3 Christmas Cheer.

Oaks Road, now a leading stud dog, was the NSW Greyhound of the Year in 2012 after a string of big race wins.

Greyhound Racing NSW wishes to extend its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eddie Kingswell.
