Some Smart Sprinters At Wenty On Wednesday

By Jeff Collerson
Ultimate Coat is undefeated in four starts from box one but faces his toughest test to maintain that flawless record when he carries the red rug in Wednesday night's Keep Walking Royce Stakes at Wentworth Park.

Ultimate Coat is not only undefeated from the rails draw but has won each of his past four appearances, over 400m and 450m at Maitland.

"He has a bad habit of sitting back in the boxes,'' trainer Joe McFadyen said.

"But I have been giving him a bit of box work and hopefully he will get away cleanly this week.

"Ultimate Coat definitely wants the fence and there's no doubt he has a big motor.

"But he is up against Jodie Lord's Bandit Jane and Mark Gatt's Bullheaded and when I am opposed to dogs from their kennels I know it won't be easy.''

Bob Payne Sprint final winner Lektra Lad (pictured) is expected to make a successful return to Wentworth Park when he exits box five in Wednesday night's Congratulations Rebecca & Richard Stakes, a 520m fourth and fifth grade.

Lektra Lad, trained by Mark Davidson, led throughout to win the group race Bob Payne at Wentworth Park on May 7 in a fast 29.76 before scoring a runaway win in the fastest time of the day over 527m at Gunnedah on May 19.

Hardest for Lektra Lad to beat look to be kennelmates Scramjet (box one) and Garden Party (box two), who are trained by Mark Davidson's "strapper" and great mate Ron Asquith.

"There is nothing between my pair and while Scramjet is a better beginner, Garden Party is a bit stronger,'' Asquith said.

"Two out Garden Party would probably edge out Scramjet but I'm far from confident as Mark's dog Lektra Lad is going extra well.''

Tania Keeping, an impressive winner over 715m at LADBROKES GARDENS on May 13, has had a change of kennel and is now with John Finn.

The Charmaine Roberts-owned Tania Keeping makes her debut for Finn in Wednesday's Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Stakes, a 720m fifth grade.

"We only picked Tania Keeping up on Saturday so don't know much about her at all,'' Finn's wife Minnie said.

But Tania Keeping's LADBROKES GARDENS win was outstanding as she was trapped outside a wide runner in the middle stages and forced off the track.

Despite that interference she stormed home to beat Paris And Rome, a WP 720m winner, by six lengths in the handy time of 41.96.

Tania Keeping is new to Wentworth Park but looks well drawn in box three, as Mcentire, in box two, is a notoriously slow starter while Tatum, in four, is a wide runner.

Uncle Pat has been unplaced in each of three Wentworth Park outings but could break through at a good price after drawing box one in the Ladbrokes Easy Form Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"After winning at Maitland on March 28 Uncle Pat led all the way over 431m at Gunnedah a month later and is going well now,'' trainer Terry Kunde said.

"Around that time I trialled him at Wentworth Park and despite being under-done he clocked 30.30, and since then he has trialled 29.70 at LADBROKES GARDENS before clocking 25.30 in a 450m trial at Maitland last Saturday.

"Uncle Pat is a fast dog on his own but in a field he has had difficulty working out how to handle the dogs around him.

"But getting box one is a big plus.''
