GRNSW's Mega Month Of Regional Racing

By GRNSW
More than $1 million in feature race prizemoney will be on offer to greyhound racing participants during Greyhound Racing NSW’s Mega Month of Regional Racing.

While the brightest of spotlights has shone upon city racing over the past month, through the TAB Million Dollar Chase and Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg, the focus and feature events are headed to the heartland of the industry over the next month.

From down at Wagga up to Gunnedah, out to Dubbo and of course one of the headline events, the inaugural running of The Ladbrokes 715 in Newcastle, a smorgasbord of feature events are scheduled around the State in coming weeks.

The features commence in the Central West this Saturday with the $50,000 to the winner Brother Fox to be run at Dubbo, but across the next month that event will be followed by the Gosford Goldmine, Wagga’s Graeme Hull Memorial Cup, the Chief Havoc Cup at Gunnedah, the world’s richest staying event, The Ladbrokes 715 at LADBROKES GARDENS, the richest shortcourse event in the world, The Thunderbolt, and wrapping up the month will be the Derby and Oaks finals at the newly upgraded Richmond circuit.

“The past month has been an incredible time for greyhound racing in NSW with the postponed 2021 TAB Million Dollar Chase slotting in on the back of the Ladbrokes Golden Easter Egg,” GRNSW’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Mestrov said.

“And let’s not forget it was only a couple of weeks before then that Zipping Kyrgios won the $125,000 Country Classic - the richest middle-distance event in the world - at Dubbo.

“While it was amazing racing at Wentworth Park during April and early May, and we were all in awe of a superstar in She’s A Pearl, it’s now time to put some focus back on the regions with a string of feature races on the horizon during what we have termed the Mega Month of Regional Racing.

“And we shouldn’t forget that while more than $1 million will be handed out in prizemoney in those feature events at our regional tracks, on top of that we have a very full calendar of racing at all of our venues, and as we know participants are racing for prizemoney at levels never before seen.

“It won’t be too long and the Nationals will be held in Sydney in August, then the second Million Dollar Chase in September … but for now, it’s all about regional racing, and let me take this opportunity to wish all eight finalists the best of luck for this weekend’s Brother Fox final.”

Other tracks to host feature events during the month will be Taree, which has The Squizzy worth $15,000 to the winner, the Bulli club honour club stalwart and former Socceroo Jimmy Jenkins with his Memorial event worth $15,000 to the winner, the Goulburn club has the Mulwaree Sprint worth $10,000 to the victor, and the $10,000 Loyalty Plate will be run at Nowra.
