Amelia Poised For Her Fourth Fifth

By Jeff Collerson
Clever placing by trainer Jason Magri has Our Amelia on target to win her fourth Wentworth Park race in fifth grade company on Wednesday night.

Our Amelia, who led throughout to win in her personal best Wenty figures of 29.80 in a grade five event on Saturday night, is chasing her fourth win in seven appearances against identical class at headquarters in Wednesday's final race.

While Our Amelia has won three 520m races in town, her six rivals have accumulated a total of just three Wentworth Park victories.

Magri has never made any secret of his liking for Our Amelia from a wide draw and while she will exit box six for the first time on Wednesday, she has won two of her three races from the seven and eight positions.

Illness forced Barcia Quality out of the rich Sandown Launching Pad series earlier this year but the winner of five from six provincial races is tipped to make a winning Wentworth Park debut on Wednesday night.

Barcia Quality has box seven in race four, a 520m fifth grade, and while she has not started since winning over 400m in a sizzling 22.24 at Maitland on April 28, trainer Michelle Sultana said: "She is trialling really well.

"Barcia Quality hurt her foot last September so when we sent her to Victoria for the Launching Pad series we had to get her a clearance trial and she performed in front of the stewards over 425m at Bendigo on March 16.

"She went terrific in that trial with the time she recorded being faster than any of the winners on that night's race meeting.

"But then bad luck struck again because Barcia Quality got sick and had to miss the Launching Pad altogether.

"She has box seven on Wednesday and she is well drawn out wide.''

Another greyhound looking well boxed wide on Wednesday is Ibrox Wildfire, who has box eight in race three, a 520m fifth grade.

Ibrox Wildfire was sent out a $2.40 favourite from box five in a similar race at Wentworth Park on Saturday night but after jumping second behind pacemaker Zipping Idaho, she ran off the track sharply, losing at least two lengths going into the first corner.

Ibrox Wildfire took off after the leader but with the winner stopping the clock at a nippy 29.97, she was unable to bridge the gap and was beaten one-and-a-half lengths.

The Billy Dance-trained Ibrox Wildfire deserves a Wentworth Park win as she has been runner-up in each of her four starts at headquarters, and has clocked slick times of 30.04 and 30.07 in her two most recent defeats.

"Box eight should suit her because she will run in a straight line from the boxes to the first turn,'' Billy Dance said.

"For some reason she ducks off sharply on that bend at Wenty so she is suitably boxed out wide.''

Cooper's Hawk was desperately unlucky when third, from box four, at Wentworth Park on April 27 and should only need a clean run early to make amends in Wednesday's NSW GBOTA Welcome Maiden, 520m.

"He has box seven and he hasn't had enough field experience for me to know whether he is well boxed or not,'' trainer Michael Galea said.

"But at his last start at Wenty he came out smartly but then was run off the track by a wide runner and did well to finish third.

"Cooper's Hawk hasn't raced since but is fit enough because I trialled him at Appin last Tuesday and then gave him a post-to-post slip at Wenty on Saturday and he went well in both trials.''
