Drop In Class Suits Panama

By Jeff Collerson
Zipping Panama was far from disgraced when fourth in a heat of the group one Hume Cup at The Meadows last Saturday night and should relish a massive drop in class at Wentworth Park on Wednesday.

The John Finn-trained dog, who has box four in race four, a 720m fourth and fifth grade, was doing his best work at the finish in last Saturday's 600m race.

Zipping Panama was fifth to the back straight but made up good ground in the run home to finish four lengths from the winner, Bounce Back, after giving that dog eight lengths' start on the back straight.

His form line for Wednesday's race looks impressive as on September 25 he trounced his then kennelmate Zipping Nebraska, who had won over 720m at Wentworth Park in June and July, over 600m at LADBROKES GARDENS.

Wednesday's most intriguing entry is Sunrise Dancer, who has box three in race three, a 520m fifth grade.

Sunrise Dancer has recorded smart times winning her past four starts over 330m at Richmond, and on September 19 stopped the clock at 18.49, just .26sec outside Straight Shift's track record.

Sunrise Dancer's trainer Sam Simonetta quipped: "If you ask me whether she will get a solid 520m I will let you know when they approach the winning post.

"I can't be sure but I have given her sufficient work and she has had two 366m trials up the straight at Appin and gone well both times.

"Sunrise Dancer also knows her way around Wenty as she has had a couple of post-to-post hand-slips there and in the most recent one got home in 11.77, which is pretty good.''

Zipping Panama's trainer John Finn will rug up Charlee's Misty and Hardcore Beckey, two of the favoured runners in race nine, a 520m fifth grade, and has bright prospects with Pristine Image, who has drawn box one in race 11, another fifth grade over 520m.

"There is not much between Charlee's Misty and Hardcore Beckey,'' Finn's wife Melinda said.

"Hardcore Beckey is very quick early and will probably be the pacemaker but she is not strong at the end of 520m so unless she gets a big break Charlee's Misty could run her down.

"Pristine Image is an improver and he is perfectly drawn in box one.''

Country trainer Peter Sims has She's A Pearl in race 7 and said she has come along nicely since winning at Wentworth Park in 30.17 on October 16.

"Since that race She's A Pearl has been worked up my straight track which is her customary conditioning between race starts.''
