Shadow Lane Drawn To Excel

By Noel Ovington

Shadow Lane excels from box one and looks hard to beat wearing the red rug in race eight at The Meadows tonight.

Shadow Lane - coming off successive second placings at Shepparton - has won four of his 10 starts at The Meadows including a one in a smart 29.90.

"It is a very good field but whenever he draws box one he is always very hard to beat," said trainer Michael Carter.

"His past two runs at Shepparton have been good because it is a track he never jumps at for some reason.

"He jumps a lot quicker at The Meadows, especially from the inside box.

"Although when he jumps he goes hard to the rails he can tend to get off the inside a little bit going into the first turn because he goes so quick but I think if he gets around the first turn unscathed he will be very hard to beat.

"He will go into the race pretty fresh because he cut his foot two starts back and had three weeks off before his last start at Shepparton."

Tomac Bale (box four) returns to The Meadows after finishing last in a hot field in a heat of the Group 1 Sportingbet Paws Of Thunder at Wentworth Park, and although drawn awkwardly he has won seven from 12 at the track and has recorded a flying 29.67.

If he leads around the first turn he will be hard to run down.

Gold Town (pictured) also contested a heat of the Paws Of Thunder and will be finishing hard from box five, while Dream It (box eight) has been racing without a lot of luck and could be placed.

Race six has attracted a terrific field for the middle distance event with 600m track record holder Bookkeeper nicely drawn in box three and he will test this field.

After winning a heat of the Cranbourne Cup in easily the fastest time of the night, Bookkeeper was severely checked early in the final.

However, this is his pet trip and he will be extremely hard to beat.

My Bro Fabio (box one) is an up-and-coming middle distance performer who made up a heap of ground when second to Lethal Three over this course and distance last Saturday night after winning at his first middle distance attempt at The Meadows.

He is a promising type right in this.

Lethal Three (box four) and Dashing Man (box six) are also capable of showing up.
