The Richmond' is a middle-distance race that was introduced by Greyhound Racing NSW in 2024.

The race, to be held over 620m, was named after the famous Richmond river that flows through the town of Casino. It also forms part of a two-pronged middle-distance showcase in the Northern Rivers region alongside 'The Clarence' at Grafton.

Wiangaree trainer Col Graham claimed the first ever edition of 'The Richmond' after his charge, Seven Sinners, led all the way in a bold front running effort to take home the $25,000 winners cheque.

The win certainly a pleasant surprise for Graham who admitted he wasn't sure Seven Sinners would ever run more than 400m when he first put her into training.

“She started off over 288 metres and 300 metres and was leading, but I doubted then she would get much more distance,” he said.

“But, she has kept improving and improving. About five weeks ago she won at Ipswich over 520m and someone said to me then that she would get 600 metres. Her early pace won the final for her. It was her only chance to hold out Nangar Lucy early and that's what she did.”

Seven Sinners led throughout the contest to hold off Sanisha by three-quarters of a length in 35.76 with hot favourite Nangar Lucy a close-up third.
