The inaugural running of the Group 3 New Sensation was in 2013 with the event taken out by the Jane Carruthers-trained Charmed Assassin.

One of the most amazing wins in the short history of the event was the 2014 win of Victorian dog Hooksy, who led throughout to win the New Sensation in a sizzling 29.36s, four lengths faster than Tonk posted in winning the Golden Easter Egg final that night.

The 2019 New Sensation was taken out in great fashion by one of the most popular dogs to ever race at Wentworth Park, the Forbes-trained Feral Franky, which held off another future Group 1 winner King Cratos.

Like many events in 2020, the New Sensation was not run due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But it was back in 2021 and so too was The Feral's trainer Jack Smith who had made it clear the opinion he had of young dog Jungle Deuce.

And despite having an unsuitable box 8 draw, Jungle Deuce was able to work across to the fence by the first turn and then powered away for a stunning win in 29.31s.

In 2022 the field for the New Sensation was full of talented young stars, but it was Victorian Devine Empress for young trainer Kayla Cotterell, who would be the victor with a brilliant performance to win in 29.70s.

There were some smart young dogs behind the winner and we will no doubt see several emerge over the next few months, the likes of Doonan, French Martini, and Yuko Girl.

In 2023, Tommy Kade notched his seventh Wentworth Park win in 13 outings in the $40,000 to the winner Gartelmann Wines New Sensation.

Tommy Kade had clocked his personal best Wentworth Park time of 29.55 winning his New Sensation heat on March 29 but his 29.71 win in the decider was probably more meritorious as he had to work hard to reach the lead going through the catching pen.

In 2024, Frank Hurst opted to skip the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg and contest the Group 3 New Sensation with his up-and-coming star Good Odds Cobber and the move paid off.

The son of Fernando Bale x Good Odds Meghan flew out of Box 8 and once he found the front, it was all over bar the shouting.

'The Cob' winning in a time of 29.43 and leading home Fear The Dragon (3.75 lengths) and Power And Glory (5.25 lengths).

"I thought it was great, i was a bit worried about the draw obviously, which veeyrone else would have been. he came out and gave the seven a good whack too, but he overcame it becasue he;s such a feriocious chaser," Hurst said

"He's homegrown, we've bred, reared him, done everything with him, he's Australian bred and born, that's why he's cobber. He's named after the old Australians and all that, we're very happy."

"We thought about it (racing in the Golden Easter Egg) mate, you know, and everyone wants to win an Egg. We've run third in one and second in one, we'd love to win one, but maybe next year we will. He won't be too old for it, he's only two years and three months now, there's plenty of big races ahead of him."
