King Back Upon His Throne

Zipping Kyrgios bounced back with a bang at Wentworth Park on Saturday night with the John Finn-trained superstar exploding out of box one to lead throughout in the $10,000 to the winner Chairman's Cup.

Zipping Kyrgios, who seemed to have been down in confidence after taking a tumble in a Golden Easter Egg consolation at Wentworth Park on April 9, won easily in 29.42, fastest time of the night and just .05sec outside the quickest of his previous dozen wins at headquarters.

Trainer John Finn's wife Minnie said before the race: "Zipping Kyrgios' final trial before the Chairman's Cup was at Richmond and he went better than he has ever gone.

"But because he has seemed to be lacking confidence he has not been producing that sort of trial form in his races.''

On Saturday Zipping Kyrgios nailed the start and had virtually a solo trial, so the dog's confidence should now be sky high.

Good Odds Cash, who vied for favouritism throughout the betting with Zipping Kyrgios, ran a mighty race to finish third, after missing the jump from box five, being seventh at the first turn and a distant fifth on the back straight.

Good Odds Cash's trainer Frank Hurst landed Saturday's second quickest winner when Good Odds Emma took the lead on the back straight to win a third and fourth grade by three lengths in 29.61.

After the race Hurst conceded he was surprised at how much early speed Good Odds Emma has shown in her past three races.

"She has always been strong but I have been taking her through her grades in 520m races at WP with the intention of stepping her up to a middle distance,'' Hurst said.

"She ran home tonight in a smart 11.65 but she runs home in 11.60 or 11.65 all the time at Wenty.

"But Good Odds Emma is showing so much early dash now that the upcoming Richmond Oaks looks a good race for her.''

Chris Arletos notched a winning double on Saturday night with litter sister and brother Black Fox and Fernando Mae.

Black Fox broke 30sec for the first time at Wentworth Park when she reeled off a dazzling first split of 5.34 before winning a fifth grade in 29.91.

"She will get better too,'' Arletos said.

"Black Fox does not turn two until next month and tonight she was suited by finally getting a dry track.

"Before tonight she had a win, five seconds and a third from 11 Wentworth Park starts but in a lot of those races the surface was rain-affected which didn't suit her.''

Fernando Mae, a 34kg litter brother and kennelmate to Black Fox, also led throughout to win his fifth grade in 30.33.

Cumbria Dreaming lost no time in taking advantage of becoming eligible for Masters races by running down Rebecca Gay to win Saturday night's veterans' race in 30.19.

After the race trainer Steve Fitch said: "Cumbria Dreaming only turned four on Wednesday so this was the first time he was eligible for a Masters race.''

Mellcat Big Boy, who overcame a moderate start to win at Wentworth Park in fastest time of the night 29.74 on Wednesday. duplicated those figures on Saturday.

"I wasn't surprised he clocked 29.74 again tonight because he jumped a lot better than he did on Wednesday,'' trainer John Mellon said later.

"Even though he won on Wednesday I was a bit mystified why he got away moderately because Mellcat Big Boy is usually a reliable box dog.''
