Draw No Concern For Maserati's Wenty Debut

By Jeff Collerson
Boom sprinter Zipping Maserati makes his keenly anticipated Wentworth Park debut on Saturday night and while he has not previously started from box seven trainer Jason MACKAY is confident he will handle the draw.

A winner of nine of his 14 races, Zipping Maserati will wear the black rug in the Cash Connect ATM Plus Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

"Zipping Maserati will cope with the wide draw for sure because he has such good early burn,'' MACKAY said.

"I also have his litter brother Zipping Lennox in box five in the same race, and while he won first up at Wenty from that draw in 30.28 on November 17, Zipping Maserati is a quicker dog.''

Red Hot Mouse resumed from a break of more than four months to win at Wentworth Park last Saturday and trainer Hank Vanderburg believes she can go back-to-back in Saturday's Rooster's Traffic Control Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Last week Red Hot Mouse exploded from the starting boxes and set up a big early lead before fading in the straight to win by a neck in 30.11.

"I was shocked when she only fell over the line last week but I think she may have been flattened a little after trialling over 520m at WP four nights earlier.

"She broke the 30sec barrier in her trial on November 30 and had been flying in private.

"In a post-to-post hand-slip at Wentworth Park a couple of weeks earlier she had recorded 24sec flat which is airborne.

"Red Hot Mouse has box five on Saturday but if she comes out like she did last week, and she is usually a good beginner, there is no reason why she won't win again.''

Summer Key, who was checked at the first turn before rattling home to finish second last week to Red Hot Mouse in a photo finish, gets her chance to make amends in Saturday's Book Your Xmas Party With Us Stakes, a 520m fifth grade.

Last Saturday Summer Key exited box eight but she will start from box two this week and trainer Andrew Rowe is happy with her inside draw.

"In 300m and 400m events I prefer Summer Key from an outside alley but in 520m races around Wentworth Park I would rather see her boxed near the fence like she is on Saturday,'' Rowe said.

"Summer Key sprung a toe eight months ago and had to have the first joint amputated but she has now started to hit top form again.

"I thought her effort to get so close to such a smart greyhound as Red Hot Mouse after the check she copped on the first turn was a terrific effort by Summer Key last week.''

Saturday's best boxed runners look to be Scotty, who has box one in the 520m Ladbroke It! Stakes and Owen Langley's duo Arctic Kingdom and King's Crown.

Arctic Kingdom drops in class and has box one in 520m Tommy Donohoe Stakes, a fourth and fifth grade, while the wide running King's Crown will wear the pink rug in the 520m fifth grade Live And Free Stakes.

Scotty produced easily his best Wentworth Park performance when a strong finishing second to the classy front-runner Chevy Royale at WP last Saturday, clocking 30.11 after chasing the winner most of the way.

Arctic Kingdom was runner-up to Good Odds Cash and Cop Magnet in top grade Wentworth Park races on November 6 and 13 while King's Crown came from a long way back, after exiting box four, when a fast finishing third to Asiram and Reena's Rosie at headquarters last Saturday.
